I know the feeling of searching and not finding any posts or videos on the topic you’re working on. I hope this thread will turn into a wealth of info you want.

Yes, atm I'm very busy with building works at our property and also the workshop is busy, so I will order the spirit from Amazon and try the method out first, there's no hurry.
I feel a lot more confident now thanks to the contributors here and now I understand why it won't come off, also that the Bezel Insert is likely not a press fit.

Funny you should mention Sky Dweller I have that on my wanted list too, not quite made my mind up as to Blue Dial SS/SS or Green Dial SS/SS, Green would be the sensible choice as I have plenty of Blue Dials already ;)

🍻🍻
I went with the blue and it’s a good looking watch. I almost went green but you can’t go wrong either way. It’s gotta a nice sunburst dial that really shows itself in the sunlight

Quit being a wimp and get the insert out brOoOO

LOL, it's more about time, Sunday is best quiet day, and today I have to take my dear Minx to the hospital in Inverness which is 120 + miles round trip so today is screwed.
The other thing is that despite searching I haven't found a replacement insert for one of these, and I am a sossidge fingered old git when it comes to being a learner to these repairs.
If I had a replacement it would be out and done by now.

Definitely not the watch to buy if you are a low key individual....

Love it !! Ickle Moi ? :ROFLMAO: Low Key :ROFLMAO: Have you seen some of the cars and powerboats plus the nutty sports I get up to ?

Here's an example from last year ....
Barefoot past Eilean Donan Castle , 42mph with no skis :D

Anyway, nuff shit about me, I would just like to thank everyone who has given me advice here, and I will report back here perhaps even snap a few pics of doing the job and also do a "how to", since I couldn't find one, and someone else someday will need to do this too.

Cheers 🥃🥃

I’m in the northern part of Florida and have a weekend getaway place on the Suwannee river. I need to start using it but there’s no f ing way I could barefoot much less do it at 40+ mph. What possessed you to get out there and do that wild stuff?
For those who don’t know 40mph is fast in a boat. It’s crazy fast on your feet

Simple answer is I have always been an adrenaline and big boyz toyz junkie, and I have absolutely no fear of anything.
To elaborate, the worst thing anyone could do with me was drop a gauntlet like that can't be done / you can't do that etc.
I never back down from a challenge.
If it has an engine I have likely owned it and most of my toyz have been tuned and modified ;)

I started on 2 skis, kneeboard, then wakeboarding became popular, started barefooting and ended up competition 'footin, that neck hold is a hard thing to learn, as was going backwards barefoot. I went to Florida trained with Ron Scarpa, the multi times World Champ, he taught me to do backwards one foots. I've also been involved in many disciplines of Motor powered Sports, both driving in events, and also building one off vehicles and boats for customers.

Speed wise, the fastest I have travveled on water is over 140 mph in one of my offshore powerboats, (aptly named Brown Trousers).
I have managed 58 mph Barefoot and 102 mph on Racing Waterskis, also I have been well over 200mph in cars and on bikes, still hit it ocassionally in a couple of my cars.

I'll stop there, because it just sounds like bragging, which I'm not. There are folks about who have gone way faster at these things and competed at way higher levels than I did.

Every now and then, when there are particular discussions here, just like on Car Forums over the years, I throw a pic or so into the mix.
I am not a religious guy, I do believe in karma and I am very grateful to the way my life cards panned out including being given the where-with-all and opportunities to fund and do all this when I was younger, my father and mother bless them were potless, so there was no inheritance, I worked hard and still do.
Albeit in a more sedate way Mel and I are still enjoying life.

Compared to some of my other younger family and friends I am still pretty fit and agile for a 62 year old, but I'm feeling the pain of arthritis most days in recent years.

That’s incredible all of it.

Golf club grip glue solvent arrived today, I will get to this Bezel repair ASAP, which is weather dependent as I will be working on an outside building project each day it is fine weather, forecasts (yeah yeah yeah) suggest the next 2 days might be good, so likely be this weekend coming (y)

I really like the plate idea. The ceramic bezels don’t seem to suffer any if you slip with your pick or blade a bit but the flesh on ones hand sure will. 😂

Thanks guys and apologies for not getting back earlier, I started the watch literally as I was posting, because I'd had a reasonable day at the buildings work, (currently the Carport / Workshop extension), and at around 3 pm it started to pissistently rain, so I dragged the power tools in, and as Mel had a friend round, I decided to grab the 'Goldmaster' and get to it.
I did the whole job inside half hour, then of course the rain stopped, so I cracked on with the building work.
After that, Hot Tub Beer and Dinner, and now I am doing the update ...............

Thanks for your concern re the blades but since I work with tools most days I'm used to doing my best not to chop bits off myself, even tho it doesn't always pan out that way.

Anyway, suspense over, the watch is fixed, not a single scratch or bit of damage.

The issue was the Bezel Casting had been machined wrongly, and so the spring loaded pin would lock it after about 1/3rd turn either direction. This of course meant that the Yachtmaster II text could not be positioned at the bottom at point zero of the 1 - 10 Regatta Hours.

A new correctly machined Bezel is the answer, but since I haven't found one, and since I am an Engineer, I came up with a novel solution that I am happy with especially bearing in mind this is not a perfect 1:1 replica by any means :ROFLMAO:

Basically, I used a dremel to machine a "double slope"on one of the 2 Pin locks on the Bezel that were badly machined, and left the other one as was.

This now means that when turning the bezel clockwise I can just rotate away all day, align the bezel wherever I want it, but when I turn it anti clockwise it will turn all the way until it reaches the lock pin, so lets say it starts just off the pin, it will go 359 degrees and then lock.
This is exactly where I have refitted the Bezel Insert so the "Yachtmaster II" text stops right where it should on the bottom of the dial area, and Regatta hour 5 is bang in line @ 12 marker.

So yeah the watch is now perfectly useable, and I will be happy to wear it wherever / whenever :)

Piccies below .........................

So, finally a big thank you to everyone who helped out and gave me insights into what to expect, how to do the job, etc, I am now far more confident and comfortable at doing a job like this, and hopefully the pictures and all the advice in this thread will help anyone else who may need to remove a YM 2 Bezel (y)(y)(y)

Ah mate that's tremendous work - What a result!. Love that you had to get your engineering hat on even for a split second as an excuse to get the dremel out haha

A dremel is not good enough for a YM2, it deserves a chainsaw.

Seriously tho, as fun as it is to dog on the YM2, I won't lie, I like it. Had this YG version years ago, wouldn't mind the SS version so I can wear it while I race my waxed paper boat in a sewage run off.

The Legend Lives On! 🤣

................. Although we have both slowed down regarding the life pace and exertion time length significantly these days ..........

The Barefoot runs when we moved up here were 3 miles between the Castle and our mooring on the beach at the back of our house, and would do them for hours, these days 2 to 3 runs is enough. Same with the partying and driving pace nowadays, I seemed to get to 60 yrs old and each year now I slow down a bit more and the months tick by faster

I can't complain though, I can honestly say if I could go back to my mid teens then start again there isn't much I would do differently (y)
