I respect the soul of beautiful Swiss movements, but I can't afford them. I'm looking for three hi quality (appearance wise) quartz reps - a stainless band Patek Nautilus, a brown leather band black face Panerai Radiomir and a quartz Chopard Mille Miglia XL with a white face and their rubber tire tread bands. Does anyone know where I might find these for under 300 dollars each?

I'm also looking for a Quartz stainless and gold, or just stainless with rubber strap Hublot classic - I don't like the enormous big bangs.

THanks a lot.

Go to the dealer section and check their websites. Quartz version are well under $300 but the ticking hands are a dead give away for anyone.

That's what's great with reps. You can get a auto for the price of quarts :)

Not with microstepper movements they're not...
And of course, 100% accuracy and very low maintenance.

I buy the rep for the looks and the Gen for the quality and beauty of the movement. I do like sweeping hands only! Mostly an auto is on the wrist - otherwise it would stop going:)
But I have several quartz.
As this is all about opinions and as the thread title is a solid statement, this is what I think: I like them both:) - for various reasons;

Auto-Reps: Perfect looks apart, "Ze system altzo werks pervectly". Thesis: from every three 300 USD auto-reps You buy one is good, one is medium, one is barely acceptable and with shipping its 1.000 USD to have a good one or You service the movements first. The movements rattle, the stem scratches, You can´t use the chrono with the nice sweeping hands with the risk of breaking it or it breaks indeed, avoid Daytonas and IWC Portuguesas...
This being said I love those sweeping hands and will continue buying autos - for the looks and variety - and for the lume. On most quartz the lume is just terrible, there is vast room for improvement there.

Quartz: Silent, shockproof, thinner watches, Chronos work 100%, You set the time and date once and forget about it, no maintenance at all, endless accuracy from the energy within the earthbound chrystal Mother Earth gifted us with. Beaters as they come.
Because they don´t rattle and shake some Quartz-reps are indeed more gen-like, they feel more gen-like, Chinese factories are just "better" at producing quartz, (more quality for less money), just choose no second hand or very small second hand, grab it when You´re off for a meeting and You´re set to go without checking time and date.
Here are some quartz-choices (indeed like them all):

HublotClassic Fusion Chronograph Racing Grey (no moving 2nd hand at all except the locked at 12 Chrono) under USD 150 from Kuvarsit (TD on RWG)
Its just changing dates, gen comes with white or black date-window, bracelet is exceptionally good with different sized screw-links

Not Gen-like Moonwatch for 128 USD from Toro; All subdials are wrong, nobody can tell on the wrist, I love it:)

IMG_0889_zps104b384d.jpg

Another "terrible" Quartz AP-Rep (Leo Messi) on the left, this one really exists, even in white, small seconds at 6´ it even is lumed,
does have some screw-in crowns for the chrono pushers (but it´s not a Daytona) and its thin;
the Swiss Auto on the right is the AP 15400 BP from Intime (an excellent feel - auto, just costs 235% more at usd 348,-)

IMG_0852_zps2e4d018e.jpg

TAG Heuer Aquaracer 300m Grande Date CAF101F.BA0821 QuartzSwiss Ronda for 239 USD plus shipping from Sead; This
looks and feels like Gen, the 1/10 second chrono at 6 actually sweeps for the first minute, than counts the hours, the
seconds at 3´tick (a little big for me) its available in black but had too many black watches already. Perfect lume, the best
for a quartz until now.

TAG_1002_zpsa971a07c.jpg

and something really nice and different: Jaeger-LeCoultre Squadra Reverso Chronograph Grey Graphite (128 USD from Intime).
The reversing movement works like a charm, the seconds hand a 6 is almost invisible at 1,3 mm length (or is it 1,7mm?)

Visited an AD before getting the rep. Afterwards can´t find any difference in looks or weight, whatever, it´s solid which is great:) The sweeping 1/10 second hand is a true gadget. It´s also a watch everybody will believe is a gen, I believe it myself. To remove a link (tube and pin) it´s also a pain - just as with the gen. Here´s a shot of the back and a lume-shot too.

I much prefer the Japanese Quartz mechs myself which might go against the grain of what some/a lot of members feel here..

I find them the most reliable and accurate watches and certainly less prone to failure in my Rep buying experience.(I am now past 20+)
The quartz generally offers you the advantage of the lower price compared to the more expensive movements.
Appearance and quality of the watch compared to the more expensive watches with the high end mechanism is generally as good if bought through the right TD.

In regards to the sweep..I have a genuine Breitling and other Gens which I use on the weekends and enjoy wearing but the smooth sweep does not make me feel any better about my watch.

I love hi end genuine watches because I have a respect for the integrity and quality of engineering and workmanship but I have as much love for a couple of Rep Quartz's that I wear regularly such as my rep Tag Grand Carrera Calibre 36.

A Rep watch for me is just about its external appearance in regards to its appeal and importantly its reliability which is why I prefer Quartz.

I use Reps during the week when I am working so I don't need to be concerned about any possible damage or feel venerable wearing thousands on my wrist.. and for this Reps are a perfect solution for me and its why I buy them.

External accuracy compared to a gen is important but not the end all be all as very few people can tell the difference and at the end so what if they can.

No matter how much you spend you will never get the same standard out of a factory in China replicating a Gen... so my suggestion is focus on a Reps appearance and most importantly its reliability otherwise its just a piece of scrap metal that is worthless.

Of course this is IMO.

it seems this post is not that popular since it's about Quartz watches but I want to chime in. At this point I am only looking to buy quartz watches or maybe 21j. Of course other movements if it's a great deal but unlike most. I don't care that much about the movement and don't crucify me for saying so ( Flame-free zone :) Yes I know that the movement etc makes the rep much more close to gen but honestly unless they are watch lovers like us they have no idea. I even have the money to get super reps but I just can't find myself wanting to buy $300 + reps. especially AP's at $500 or more. I guess im a cheap ass and it would be nice to try out a cheap piece before investing on a expensive rep.

I've also noticed even those wearing Gen's have no idea about their watch. My buddy had on a Sub at my friends kid's b-day and knew less than me about his own watch. I have gotten so many compliments on a Brietling I got for less then $50 ( not remotely close to Gen) I love the watch. it looks great and even a buddy who has a real Navitimer grabbed my wrist and says nice watch bro. Just because it's 21J with sweeping hand he automatically assumed it's real. ( plus nobody would think I would wear rep watches so that helps)

I got a Omega for $70, Breitling for under $50 and Tag Carrera for under $30 and get compliments all the time on them. So with that being said, i'm more about the look of the watch rather then how close to Gen it is now. i wasn't this way first starting out and wanted super reps but when i am getting more love from my cheapies then my $400 rep.... it's something to think about. Plus nobody is going to examine my watch, nor will most of them even know the brand or assume it's a rep, so I want to know why TD's don't offer more options of cheaper reps? I would love some Hublot's and AP's that are under $150 or even under $100 so I can have a few just to enjoy the look and style but it's impossible to find them on TD sites. I know people always say just PM a TD to source for you but it would be nice if TD's had a section that just sold Cheapies for people like me who want to just enjoy the look/style and want the watch to last a long time. I know Silix offers some economy watches but what about others? I have looked at several TD sites and don't see much options.

I wish us quartz/21J/cheapie loving brothers would get some love too. I want to buy some more watches to fill the watch box but not at $300 a pop! anyone else with me on this? BTW that Tudor is beautiful and eve more so since it only cost $100!

I'm not surprised you would say the Bmw760 :)) In no way am I saying Quartz are just as good and doesn't hold a candle to a well made auto rep. But sometimes you just want some watches for the look but still want the brand name on it to make you feel good. I guess im at a point I want a lot of watches to play with rather than a few really good super reps. After this phase end and I get a feel for them on my wrist probably get the high end REPs of my few favorites.

Sorry. I'm not with you at all.

If you want to test watches. You can order an accurate version and check it out. If it doesn't work for you, flip it for a minimal loss. Many of us here have done that.
