OK, as the story goes, I had ordered a PAM000 from Davidson about a month ago. As stated in a previous post, it had a number of issues such as a busted movement holder and the busted piece floating around in the balance spring, it had a scratched ar, scratched minute hand, and stripped lugs, as well as a few other problems. What it seems to me was I got a recycled movement.

Now bear in mind that I paid for a top notch rep with mods, and specifically with the fat crown guard, and the fat crown, davidsons special crown that has the spring in it to counter the crown guard.

Anyway I pay for a high end rep.

Well last week the replacement arrives, but canada customs put a $287 levy in taxes and duties on it, so i refuse the package. Well davidsen got it back and asked me to send it to a friend. I give my mates addy, and it arrives today. Well i go and pick it up and there is now roughly $125 levied on it. I say fuck it i want the watch so i pay the duty.

Well i open the package and i see the watch is a standard rep case, similar to what you can get for a hundred and fifty bucks from any of the other dealers. What starts to piss me off is that it dosn't have the upgraded crown, just a standard thin piece of garbage, and the crown guard didn't sit properly on the case, oh and by the way the crown guard wasn't a fat version but a plain jane skinny one with the lever so loose it flapped around like my dick in the wind. if you can picture this there was a millimeter of space on the top and bottom of the lever where it sits in the crown guard. tonnes of play. Well anyway i go to set the time and the crown pops out of the movement. WTF i say so i open it up, take off the crown guard and set it in place then go to put the crown guard back in and the bottom screw is stripped. ON TOP OF THAT one of the screws has a corroded head?????? now i have two watches on hand that i may be lucky to take to a watch smith to make one watch out of that will still have flaws.

If this is quality control then i would hate to see a watch that comes out with out any QC...

What a joke, i am out close to four hundred for one watch and another 125 for a second watch that is in worse shape than the first.

no response yet, but i am sure i will get one. i am thinking of taking the two of them to my watchsmith and taking the guts out of the second one and putting it in the first one and at least have something. its like i got two recycled cases back to back. just fucking brutal. if i ran my business like that i would be shut down long ago.

to avoid any future customs BS, just ask for a refund, even partial. he may go for that.

fuck that, why should i be out any additional money? why should i pay for shipping back, have paid for duties on the second watch and then get partial refund. no way, no how.

I don't believe DSN's crown fits a standard rep case without modding - if he sent standard case (which he does sometimes, I know this from my own personal experience with him), the chance is that you'll get one with standard rep crown as well.

Good news is that I don't think rep crown + case combo isn't that bad.

What really sucked for you was the customs... 125 dollars...... how did they come up with that amount anyway?

Sorry for your troubles.

Thats understandable. I have a similar problem i ordered his Ult 112 from him a couple of weeks ago and paid him the extra $20 to send it ASAP via the fastest way. About 5 days ago i got an email from him that the watch was undeliverable due to some Customs issue and he asked me to give him another address to send it to. I told him forget about it and just refund me, as i just bought a Highly Modded 183G from a good seller who was located in CONUS and was nice enough to over night the package to me. I have contaced DSN over a handful of times, asking what is going on? and still no response. So we're in the same boat though for me he has my watch and my $400 and 5 days of no reponse to dozens of emails is quite frustrating.

the crown is definately a standard rep crown, not one of his.

i can take some pictures tonight after work. not sure how to take a picture of a stripped screw though.

the problem is that on the first watch the hands and dial are scratched from the shit floating inside the case. the ar was scratched too. I can live with the stripped lugs as spring bars are fine.

on the second one, the crown guard screws are stripped.

my plan, to take both to the watch smith, have the crystals pressed out. put the un scratched crystal on the first case. take the guts from the second watch and put it in the first case, and then put the crown in, and bobs your uncle.

I am sure that this endevour will cost at the minimum another $100, so i will be out $225 total.

I emailed davidsen, but no response. I was thinking of then maybe selling the left over parts, and splitting the cash with him, because really why should i be on the hook for shipping costs too.

i am not an unreasonable guy, i am just overly frustrated.

oh, customs assesed the wholesale value, that is how they came to that price.

what was underneath the crystal that scratched up the dial, hands and ar coating?

Damn Pete, I find this story very disconcerting. The customs problems aside, i think we have all come to expect a certain level of product and service from DSN. I will be interested to hear how this all shakes out with DSN in the end. Good luck to you.

a piece of metal about half a millimeter in diameter. however, the crystal looks more like there are swirls on it. i am trying to capture it on camera. same as the hand, it is difficult to see, but it looks like it was scratched and then touched up.

Hate to hear of these problems, but grateful that they are posted. I will think twice before ordering big ticket watches.

i am seriously considering getting out of reps.

the hassle of getting burned in this hobby is not fun and it's hard to read about other's misfortune but we all know that something like this can happen to us at some point if we stay in this game long enough. There are risks involved and your experience has proven that...still I hope your situation works to a good end.

Unfortunately these kind of posts have become more and more common concerning Davidsen. While it's true he offers a nice product, it doesn't mean anything if the watch you end up recieving is riddled with problems. His QC is in the the toliet, and that's a shame for the price he charges and the effort he puts into development you would think you should always expect a top notch product. Many will say that it's all worth it if you get a good Davidsen, but lately that is a big IF. Sorry to hear your out money on this deal hopefully it all works out in the end.

well, during lunch i took both watches to the watchsmith and he is going to attempt to pull the best parts from the two of them and make one decent watch. so lets see.

one thing is for sure, whether the situation is rectified or not, i won't be ordering from davidsen again. i gave the benefit of the doubt once. fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you.

I'd like to see pics, too.

FWIW, there isn't anything special or better about DSN's cases. If anything it was more of a PITA that he used his "own" cases, as a lot of times his dials wouldn't fit into "normal" reps. So, you're not missing out on any advantage by getting a standard rep case.

The crown on the other hand....

Please post some pics of the damaged watches when you get a chance.
