I would service only Senior Members/VIP Members. I think this group of members understand the shortcomings of reps and know it is not a perfect science.

If he states that he wants it as it came from the factory...just put all the parts in a ziploc and send it back him...that is about the condition they come from the factory in!

LOL now the lurkers are coming out of the woodwork.I'm a long time collector of reps.I've been sliding in and out of the hobby for years, as you can tell by my join date, and have begun lurking again fairly regularly in recent months. I have a BK TT Sub coming some time this summer. I'm going to dabble more with amateur putzing around with some of my scrap watches for starters, and I plan on doing some seal lubing from there once I get my watchmaker bench.

When I first started reading G's threads, I was truly impressed with his precision and expertise, not to mention his style of writing. There's no question he's one of the best technicians on these sites.

All I can say, there are always going to be difficult to unreasonable clients in any industry. G was more than generous in how he's been dealing with this situation and I admire his pride in his work, professionalism, and his desire to make things right. I wouldn't let one difficult job ruin it for the rest. If strict screening and payment policies are necessary to weed out those who expect way too much, so be it.

I better start uping my post count here because G would be the first technician I would turn to for a service and G, I promise I'm more than reasonable, pleasant and understanding in fact, to work with.

The "reliability" of A7750 is the reason I won't buy them. So you'll never hear shit from this noob about his 7750. ;)

BOTTOMLINE: Stay!

It's pretty simple: Obvious that the customer does NOT represent this community or RWG, RG, etc.

STAY!

Hey man,

It's all about making money at the end of the day, if working on reps is boosting your income and your enjoying the chats and banter around the forums then fix his watch if you get chance then forget about the tool! There will always be one, just let it slide. Obviously the forum members and admin recognise you have acted correctly here so nothing to worry about.

If the stress is out weighing any financial benefit then quit, Simple. Or like many have suggested, only take work from more seasoned members.

Oh gawd
I've been so busy try to fix a major computer issue I missed this thread entirely, sorry mate.

Let me get this right, one of his options is that you pay for a new MVT and then he wants to charge you for the old one??? That says volumes about this creep. Mate, the guy is a tool and you have bent over backwards to accommodate him. No one could have done more. I doubt Ziggy would appreciate his name being dragged into this by the guy either as I'm sure I know whose side he would be on and it ain't the customers. He gets the same type of fool every now and again too.

The guy is simply trying it on mate, don't stress over it as he isn't worth it. As you said, no point in outing him publicly but I'd appreciate a PM with his user name. We need to know in case he tries the same crap again on someone else. If we know who these guys are in advance we have a better overview of any future problems.

Don't go, as you can see you have the unqualified support of the vast majority of the members here and I dare say at the other boards as well. I would however be sticking to long term members in the future. It is well within your rights to pick and chose whose work you do.

Regards, Col.

"I want it back perfect" ... Arrived to you to be serviced with a torqued Chrono Bridge?... doesn't compute here.
Further reading reveals that the customer in question doesn't have a real firm grasp on the realities of rep collecting, let alone the a7750 movement.

My experience with the A7750 has been... if a chrono, get it serviced or expect trouble. If a Gmt, get it serviced or expect trouble. If a "base" style, such as the auto-pams (sec @9 / date only)... it'll probably be fine.

I'd say that you should stay here, share the members name with the Admins, and perhaps with the other watchsmiths here so they can avoid a similar issue until this member learns the ropes and is aware of the inherent problems we as rep collectors face....

I think I've currently got 3 A7750 chronos that are in the "dead" pile for whatever reason... day/date won't change at all, manual winding only cause rotor gear train is bonked.... I should really give you some business.

Hi G,

please don't let one bad apple be the reason for you to leave this community and stop working on replicas - I just received my FM King Cortez back from you and your service was the best I ever received from any watchsmith I have ever dealt with - I have been collecting replicas for 5+ years and had a lot of them serviced, none ever ran as smooth as the one you just serviced and the way you keep your customers in the loop every step of the way is incredible.

To be honest I bought a couple of replicas recently with the intent to send them all to you for a full service...so selfishly I hope you will continue to work on reps :)

cheers

Well, atleast you are coming foward and conveying your frustrations in a profession that you take pride in. I think most appreciate that.

The decision for a watchman to leave the rep industry or a buyer to do the same I think is a decision that sooner or later pops up because of the nature of the industry itself.

In all fairness, Buyers do seem to expect too much from the piece itself. They think a $300 rep will look and behave like a $3K gen. On the flip side, sellers offer poor customer service in general. In an industry that seeems to have no or very few controls these reactions certainly dont surpise me

people need to get real buying a rep asian 7750.

sooner or later.....massive trouble. hard to service.
better replace the whole thing right away with a swiss.

i know a great watchsmith that prefers not to even touch the swiss 7750.

"I cannot imagine that a watch in this price category is leaving an Asian factory in a condition like the condition the watch was in after you serviced it."

LOL! That is all I need to see to echo what so many others have said: Please stay.

If you decide to screen your rep customers to make the service work more accommodating for you, please consider that so the reasonable customers have a competent resource in you.

I second you on this one tommy_boy :)

I have not been into reps that long (the serious way at least) but reading up about reps is a must or it will lead to fail and tears, 100% of the time.

Personally I have taken the maybe fatalistic approach to consider the 200-700$ cost the moment I press
[buy] to be expendables in the way the watch can be stolen/lost/die etc
and and is truly and eternally happy for the fact we have the pleasure to have people among us that will work on our little babies.

So being a dick towards the one that is actually reaching out a hand to help save our reps no one else will touch, is truly a show of stupidity.

So to say the least, everytime we have had our watch serviced by any of the RWI members that do modding or service in anyway we should

have a
[BLINK][thankyou!][/BLINK] button to press and a little RWI gratefulness meter showing up :bubbles:

IMO any clone 7750 should be avoided at all cost...in fact, anything that's beyond a basic movement should be avoided in the replica watch world.

stick to the basics and proven china movements.....and don't over do it, Don't wear replica watch (based on a genuine that's worth 10K) when your delivering pizzas (no punt intended to anyone). the trick is to make it believable ya ?

Every once in a while you get a pain in the a55 customer- goes with the territory. Having read comments and posts by gen owners on other forums, you honestly think that life is going to be easier with them? There must be a reason you got out of working on gen watches. Something tells me there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Nobody is forcing you to work on anything that you feel isn't worth the time. Be more like BK and tell them to go crap in their hat. Those that appreciate you will keep you busy. People that are a55h0l3s will be trimmed from the herd.

Just to add my two cents worth here, it is a privilage to have guys like yourself here willing to work on watches we haven't a clue about and didn't buy from you in the first place.
There are guys like this everywhere and it's a shame you have ended up with him. I have no doubt it's because you care deeply that you are so upset about this.
Please take heart from the posts in this thread as it would be a crying shame to lose someone like yourself.

Guys, one point.
There is nothing wrong with the basic A7750 MVT.
It is used in 1000's of expensive gens every week, they sell 10's of 1000's of them a month. The trouble is with the modified ones found in the Daytonas and some IWCs (sec@12). This is due to the module that shifts the running seconds from 9 o'clock to 6 or 12 o'clock. It is not made by the factories producing the MVTs and is a piece of crap. I know most of you realise this but by the looks of some of the advice above their are many who are under the impression that all A7750s are bad. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, the old low beats were indeed junk but that's changed now and both the high and low beats now being made are a professional and reliable MVT especially if given a service soon after purchase as some do come rather dry of oil. That is about the only fault a new, non modified A7750 has.

Just ignore the cockhead from now on. Whats he going to do? You done the right thing and he sounds like a major cock. Just ignore him mate and deal with experienced buyers.
Anyone tries to blackmail me after I've done a job (in the real world) I just don't take that crap.
cheers
