So I did it again today! (all silicon-greased, caseback tightened, crown double-checked etc. BP-Sub-C)

England, Shropshire.
Hmm,

That first one looks singularly unimpressed!

If I was diving deep enough to get that picture, I wouldn't be relying on a replica, no matter how tight the caseback, or how much grease had been applied:helpsmilie:

I have a g-shock (200m) a Seiko Monster (200m) and a Longines Hydroconquest (300m) for water activities. I would be reticent to wear my hydroconquest in the sea. Reps are for daily beater activities and looking suave at work and in the supermarket, aren't they?

What a resurrection post. And it's not even PAM related. I don't know about you but I wear my reps to the ocean. I take my chances as they haven't been properly sealed by a watchmaker but so far they've held up well. Nothing crazy like deep sea diving but I've gone snorkeling with my PAMs (Submersibles of course).

Where did you get the Pams? Which factories did they come from?

I used both watches that came from Puretime in the water without doing something. Both were ok. Maybe I'm lucky but I wouldn't be afraid if the watch is checked during QC.

PureTime watches pull through for me too, particular JF's watches

If you wear the hydroconquest in salt water make sure to rinse it well with tap water and dry it. Some versions of these have a non stainless spring in the bezel which tends to rust.

I'm interested in this too. A lot of good advice listed - cheers for that. But has anyone used a TD or similar on the forum, to send a rep PAM back to? It would be handy to know who offers this if anyone has already gone to the trouble of researching it.

Cheers for that! I don't think I'll take the risk.

My Omega Railmaster and the BP Submariner 16610LN both have been in swimming pools and the ocean alike, and they are both ticking like champs. Both went into the ocean before any treatment of any kind (the Omega was serviced a couple of months ago because it was running slightly late after almost eight years and now the Gen ETA works flawlessly).

In my experience, if it's a watch designed to be water resistant it should be ok. Wouldn't go swimming with my Portofino, for example.

Here's a thread on it.

But it depends on what issue you have with the PAM. It might be easier, faster and cheaper to have it fixed locally.

I had water issues w/my Noob PAM364 after swimming with it. Dial fogged up & lume bubbled on the hands. I sent it to a modder for repair/waterproofing & it happened again 6 months later. So I became a little inquisitive. There are some pics on the sites of some TD's that show 2 o-rings on the caseback. A larger (on the outer) & a smaller (closer to the rotor). My watch only came with one larger o-ring. My question is should it have come with two & is that why I continue to experience water penetration issues even after it being greased by a "modder"?

If your watch arrives and looks the same as the ones on the website, you can't say you got the wrong watch. Yes, I can see there are differences between the versions of the watch. The watch that was released in 2014 does have two o-rings. The subsequent ones which were released in 2015 and 2016 do not have the o-ring on the caseback, only on the part of the case. As for greasing, now far be it for me to comment on a modder's work, but he is supposed to be a watchmaker and as such, knows that there is a purpose for greasing seals and that is to ensure its water resistance, single or double o-ring. If he greased the seals but didn't check the water resistance, then why do it at all? It's like asking a car repair shop to patch up an obvious puncture in the tire and then after the process, not testing the tire if there are any other holes which may not be obvious (like with a nail sticking out), then using it on the road and after some time the tire deflates and then you wonder why.

Thanks mysterio for the reply. I'm not suggesting that I received the wrong watch. The pics where I saw the 2 o-rings were not from the TD from whom I purchased it from. I questioned whether my watch did come with 2 o-rings & the modder forgot to install the smaller one. All of this was running through my head. I paid a significant amount of $$ for repair & waterproofing only for it to happen again. Thanks again for clarifying on the 2 o-ring history.

I see. I interpreted it as receiving from the TD, not receiving from the modder. So depending on when you got the watch you could have either gotten one with 2 o-rings (2014) or one o-ring (2015-2016, onwards? unc), Even if you got the watch from a different TD, if the timie preiod of purchase is the same, you would have gotten a watch with the same number of o-rings (since most TDs don't stock the watches at their office, they just get it from the factory after payment). Still, if the watch came from a modder and one of the things you paid him $$$ to make the watch water resistant (for swimming for example), the watch should not have suffered the same catastrophic failure you encountered.

It's not a simple as that though. Plus epoxying/superglueing the caseback will probably make the case water resistant, but won't it also ensure that servicing or repairing the watch will no longer be possible?

Anyway, here's a post by bobandshawn regarding using what you mentioned and applying them at specific points (expoy is not used for the caseback for example).

I shower with mine no problem from the factory. never swam in it. Taking it to new orleans and having it tested, and to the best of their ability, water "proofed."
