How to take your rep for repairs?

I am new to this forum, and while reading the "what to do after you buy your first rep" sticky, I found myself being curious as to how you can find a watch repairman who will service any kind of watch. I don´t think I could just walk into any watch store and ask them to repair any of my reps, as I am pretty sure that they would not accept the assignment. How does this work out for others "out there"?
