Hello Guys

for those who have seen the thread about the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver 3.5 (that's long !) MEGA PICS here :

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/audemars-piguet-roo-142467

you know that i made a new hole on the rubber strap of the AP.

For small wrists, you have 2 choices :

- buy a GEN xs rubber strap for + or - $200 or
- make a hole

the problem here is the hole is not round but oval shaped with a straight part in the center.

I used 4 tools to make it :

- a pencil to draw the shape
- a small sharp screw driver (for using it like a spade to cut the grass vertically)
- a metal tool cut into a point
- a scalpel for creative stuff

and think to protect the table ! :spank:

I used my eyes instead of magnifying glass (i don't like it)

You have to be patient and sweet with the rubber.

"approach perfection is a slow way"

Always think that in real life you see less than the pictures so it looks better with 3D eyes.

To begin the finished work pictures : (with a good camera)

---------------------------------
So now let's go to the action (with iphone 4 pics)
---------------------------------

1rst STEP :

preparation by using the pencil to draw the hole.

My advice : don't do the same as me !!!

i made a smaller hole by safety but the problem is after you have to make it bigger. but the rubber is already open so it takes time to do it.

I think it's better to use the solid rubber to cut it right at the good shape or maybe at 98% for the finish after.

2nd STEP :

use the tool in metal cut into the point (from the first pic, i don't know the real name of it) to draw again after the pencil and scratch the border of the shape

when the rubber is scratched, use the screwdriver and press vertically (you will hear a special sound when you cut the rubber completely)

keep using the screwdriver and do all the border until you can take the center piece away.

You can see the shape is closed but the hole is smaller.

3rd STEP :

use the scalpel to finish or make a bigger hole (cut slowly and vertical aligned)

think to turn over the rubber and equalize the hole from the other side

-------------------------------------------------
THE END
-------------------------------------------------

I Hope it's gonna help and you gonna like it !!! see you

how about using a small nail file to smooth out the edges and remove any remaining rubber from the cut?

great mod nonetheless! :)

yes good idea, but she didn't have small one ;) just big one.

so i used the scalpel for the remaining rubber.

But i'll try to smooth out the edge when i'll find the perfect tool ! :flamethrower:

Good job and nice write up :)

What size wrist do you have? Quite like this watch but didn't realise how big it is until I saw it on your other thread next to the PAM243! I have a PAM111 and it's just about ok on my wrist so worried that the AP looks a bit more chunky.

Was hoping there was a DIY way to make a punch and just hammer/stamp it out somehow. Afraid I might screw it up doing it this way.

very tempting to try it, I about to order the strap for $250, but I guess before dropping some money, I will try this first. Thanks, I wish I could pay you to do this for me. ^_^

There is an easy way if you have the tools to do so.

Buy a brake line for a car, cut the end off with a dremel or any other tool that will cut it, sharpen the edge with a grinder. Then since the line is soft metal, use a hammer to lightly beat the end until it's the oval shape you require. Hammer it through your strap... done.

You have to resharpen it every hole you punch though for pro results.

(This one was used so the edges aren't nice and sharp, just an example. You can still see leather inside of it, haha!)

no, the rubber didn't crack !

it just stays the same.

It's a good quality one.
