How to make a a2836 smoother

Hi,
I have a DSSD with a a2836 movement. It's an awesome looking watch and the quality of the build is excellent.

The only concern I have is with the smoothness of the second hand which although from a little distance looks smooth, on a closer inspection (like lifting your wrist to view the watch) there's a hardly noticeable "judder" every few seconds and it was the first thing someone said when looking at the watch.

As I say, it's not very obvious but enough for someone to notice. I guess I'd like to know firstly if this is the norm for this movement as far as you're aware and secondly, is there any kind of mod, grease, prayer I can employ to smooth the second hand sweep further?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the response rsh,
Is it a movement which could be straight-swapped for another which would be better?
I guess I (mistakenly) figured that a movement with a high vibration count would better be utilised to get a smooth second hand.

If anyone has experience/opinion on a movement which better replicates the smooth hand, I'd be interested to hear it.

Thanks again

Is a Rolex movement smoother than an Eta?

I just compared an sw200, 2824, a2824, a2836, and my gen seamaster and they all look mostly the same. The seamaster may have been ever so slightly smoother but I'm also thinking that the second hand and dial background may influence what the eye sees.

It happens to Gen rollies as well. Not really much to do, its already at 28,800 VPH.

I took an HD video of it last night, I'll see if I can trim it in a way which shows it. It's hard to see in video though.

well this is simple if you ask me:

if there is a shudder that is not symmetrical in time, there's an issue.

if there is a symmetrical time stamped shudder, then not much you can do.

you are not mistaken, the higher bph rate does indeed mean a smoother sweeping
seconds hand. it should run with a rather smooth sweep, and if there is a shudder
or micro-tick in the sweep it should be perfectly symmetrical with time.

in either case, and especially in case number one, you should get it serviced. It'll
run almost 200 bucks but will be a great investment into the piece and possibly
solve your issue.

That's really very helpful, thanks for taking the time to write it out. I'll certainly consider it. It's not a symmetrical shudder IMO

so if it's random or semi-random then I would think there's some sort of issue.

slight magnetization, something a touch loose, who knows. a proper service should
handle/fix anything that would cause it.

Exactly, thanks again. Now to find someone in the UK who services...

Take it to someone with a Timegrapher and if there is a physical problem that needs fixing, it will immediately show up.
