How many of you keep your watches on a watch winder?

I have several automatics, but a few of them are only worn on special occasions because they just look too dressy for normal every day wear. So I have a quad watch winder that I keep them in to keep them wound while I'm not wearing them. The other two or three rarely go 36 hours without being worn, so those stay pretty wound anyway. I may need to get another quad box soon seeing as I just bought another automatic and am looking at another one in a couple months.

I was just wondering how many of you also keep your automatics in a watch winder. I have read a couple threads where people have complained that their watch winds down overnight and was just wondering if perhaps they didn't know about these things. My wife went looking for a new one for me for last Christmas and the places she went to looked at her like she was crazy. They are all over ebay if you look and they aren't really that expensive. I mean, $70 shipped for a quad watch winder that will keep your $5000 watchs wound doesn't seem like a bad investment. lol It is nothing compared to the value of the watches in the box, so I think everybody should have one.

Anyway, that is just my endorsement of the devices as well as just an idle question as to how many people use them. Most of my friends are either quartz guys or eco-drive guys, so they look at my watch winder like I'm keeping my watches on ice or something. I am loving this place because I feel like I'm surrounded by 'my people' or something. :) You guys may not use watch winders, but I'll bet you don't think I'm crazy for doing it.

I don't have one because it just takes 1 minute to set the time on the watch you want to wear, so in my mind I don't need one. But they look great for display or for the wife/GF who has an automatic but hates to set the time every time it stops.

I'm now a former complainer. I have a higher priced single winder that didn't seem to be effective. Turns out the board was bad. So I got it repaired and now it keeps my Valjoux on time. Great!

I have 2 boxes that wind 8 each. The other autos have to sit and be wound and set when I wear them - which is almost never.
I keep ones I rarely wear on winders because the Rolex Service Center here in Dallas told me to keep my Rolex's wound and not to let them sit for months at a time. They highly recommended a good winder.
So I have 2 AceTimer boxes (each winds 8 and displays another 10) and I'm extremely happy with them. I bought my son the 4 winder model (also displays 5) as his collection is growing as well, but he really didn't have room in his college apartment for the bigger box.
So I'm a "Yes" on the winders. It's a great investment.

Sorry to thread crap, but...
I have one that keeps 8 watches wound. They work great and my watches are always ready to go.

Glad to see another native amongst the ranks!! From what part of the Lone Star State do you hail?

Never mind the winders, what you guys should be getting is therapy for your watch addiction! Just kidding, I started with a dual winder but now that my collection is growing I'm looking at getting a quad as well.

I use four winders on which I keep the watches I am more likely to wear (ands what I like about that winder is that it's fully vertical and each watch can be controlled independently). The main winder holds 9 and stores 12. The second winds 6 and I think holds 12. The other two both wind 4 and hold a few. The rest is stored in watch boxes, and I do try to wind those every couple of months or so. I have found that the best and most reliable winders are those that are fully vertical. Like this:

What is a good price for a winder? Some of the winders I have seen cost a fortune. Are there any good quality cheap winders out there?

Some say the gens have good lube so they dont need to keep running all the time. That running just puts more wear on the watch. Rolex just wants to service the watch so sure keep it running!

You can get this particular one on ebay for around a hundred bucks.

Considering it winds 8 watches and stores 4 more, it is a good deal. You can get single, dual, or quad watch winders for less. My quad watch winder cost me about $70 shipped, but I'm thinking about getting the 8 one and selling the quad to a friend who has been asking for it. Just look them up on ebay "watch winder 4" or "watch winder 8" and you'll see what is there. You can spend lots of money for one, or little money for one. It just depends on who is going to see it. If I had $50,000 worth of watches in it then you can bet I would have a real wood one with a metal core and secure lock on it. lol Instead I've got maybe $800 worth of replicas and inexpensive gens in there and I don't have it on display anywhere other than my bedroom.

I've got a dual watch winder from AceTimer. I've had it for about 6 months and it's humming along great. Problem is that my collection is growing. If anyone is interested in purchasing it from me then PM me - I'll use the proceeds to buy a larger one!

I'm with you on this one.

Besides, if your watch is say 10 secs out a day, and you were your watch, say, once a week (condisdering all the watches we have, that is not unusual), that is over a minute out. So what's the point in a winder when you have to adjust the watch anyways.

Hey guys, sorry for the misunderstanding, that's not my actual winder. It was an example of what I was calling a vertical winder, which for some reason I find to be a lot better than the ones where the watch sits on an angle. I looked for a good picture of my actual main winder. It's like this one:

You can find many different types like this one. Just look online or on eBay. They tend to be pricey, but sometimes you can find a good deal.
