How many of you 7750 owners use your chrono function?

I just received my IWC Top Gun 3789 and I love it, the chronograph function is very useful. However, I remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't use the chronograph function too often because the 7750 is a relatively unreliable movement and this increases it's likelihood of breaking. Is this true? Any comments? Thanks in advance!

I always use it when I need to. No problem there. I use my reps like they are gens. But thats just me... Never had any issues or had one of these 7750s ever fail on me. But who knows, I might have gotten lucky. In any case, if a rep is good enough as a keeper, even if the movement were to blow up for whatever reason, I'd just throw another one in it (or fix it & service it). Simple.

Exactly, me too....

To add, not only do i use my reps as gen, but i respect them like i would the gen too....

I don't find much of a need for the chronos though....

I never use the Chrono on my 7750 tag (purchased from Shandroid) after reading threads about the possibility of damaging the movement.

This watch will be my daily wear for a while, I love this watch, so perhaps I'll just use it til the movement dies and swap in a reliable movement. What about having it modded to something along the lines of Spinmasters 7760 movements?

I use my chronos, asian and swiss all the time.
I am a crew member on a sailboat racing team.
I use the chrono function for the 10 and 5 min
countdown and to time our boats overall time.
I can report that I have had no problems with
any of the models I use (Gen or Rep)

Is there any actual evidence that using the chrono is bad? I have used them no problem.

I only have one 7750 watch, but I use the chrono maybe once a day.

Never had any mechanical problems related to the chrono with mine, and to boot, my watch has a modified movement. (Seconds and hour counter in the same subdial) because it is the ultimate rep of the Graham Swordfish

I had a gen IWC chrono, the quartz 36mm (3741?). I had the watch five years, probably using the chrono function once a week, and it (the stopwatch) failed. I think the repair was about $150, but that may have been because it was "IWC."

Now, from all you guys using the chrono without problems, how many reset outside the 10-2 zone?

Where could I source an ETA 7750?

ebay and they pop up on the forum everyone in a while. if you get one for 300$ your doing good

Is there any actual evidence that using the chrono is bad? I have used them no problem.

its not that its bad its just the quality of these movement are not the best, and if you use the chrono function often you will increase the chances of movement failure

but I use the chrono maybe once a day.

holy cow that seems like a lot- to me at least
its awesome that they are working fine

This would be me...should this be avoided?

Yes, if the hand slams back to hard it might slip and then it won't be positioned at 12 anymore. Quartz don't have this issue as they reset slow, but mechanical reset is quite violent and can cause the hand to slip no matter if it's rep or gen.
