Is there a reason why people change the crown on the JF subs to the gen? They seemed fine to me, but I may be missing something. o_O

I have the feeling that the rep crowns are just casted and the gen are casted and machined, there is something special in the look of their teeth profile, but as I had no chance to comparing side to side a gen with a rep, I may be wrong. It would be great to learn about this from a specialist like occb2

Honestly, I haven’t figured out any differences between gen, TC or JF while looking at them only. Although there might be some optical differences, I cannot tell them and I’m 100% sure that only 0,003% on earth will ever be able to tell from a optical point of view, that’s a rep crown. Anyway, if it comes to mechanics, there is a clear difference. Screwing and unscrewing is really smooth on gen ones and needs (as I’m correct) 2.5 turns each. JF one doesn’t have that and feels a bit like scratching something. Just my opinion... TC is quite good what I have had so far

Thanks for the insight. I took a look at the crowns yesterday and they looked pretty much the same. on the YG models, the gold may be a little bit more vivid, but not that noticeable unless you really look side by side, for a while.

Just couldn't grasp by some people would change it, doubt anybody would be screwing your crown. Bet there are other tells when it's in your hand before even getting to the crown. Maybe it's just personal preference, idk.

Great post man. Do you think that a BP bezel assembly would fit on the JF case? I'm trying to think of a way to put a gen insert on a JF without getting a gen bezel assembly.

Thanks man. Yeah that was one of my biggest challenges all the time ;)
but if you have a JF LN assembly, a gen insert could fit here as well. So why to change?

In 1-2 weeks I will try a TW bezel assembly (gen insert fits there but needs little glueing, which I prefer instead of sanding). If BP should also have gen specs I would say chances are good to fit with BP retaining ring because JF accepts TC, Gen and maybe TW. But I never tried, so cannot guarantee.

i see, but TC pieces are not gonna be easy, actually they are impossible to find, any other suggestion?

As you can see in this thread, I bought a rep JF 16610LV insert some time ago that was stated as gen, possibly with a gen pearl. So maybe JF is an option as it’s good enough to fool. Color is a bit different but apart from that very w.

I do have this one still lying around and no time for all the bureaucracy to fight for my loss...maybe I would sell this for 100€ but honestly, this is just because of my personal imaginary value to this item... you can get from a TD way cheaper

Nearer than you think
i see, thank you, i will eventually purchase the JF 16610 and start from there, i would add a gen datewheel and a better green insert, correct me if i'm wrong, but the JF insert is a bit olive, and i prefer the lime lighter color

Gen datewheel and a service are the the next two things on my shopping list.
I'm also going to pull the bracelet apart at the SEL's and replace that silly little springbar with solid pins. I've seen a few fail, and it worries me.

this is what i'm talking about, there are many different colorations, i was wondering if there was one like the lime one, (B3)
what is the color of the rep? (b1,b2,b4,b5?)

Oh great pic for comparison.
Actually I can distinguish only between B3 and the rest, without having all of them next to each other ;) that’s why there is only two main green versions available where I can differentiate.
Not sure but WSO on eBay might have a B3 version available, problem is that they have horrible pearls. JF is rather dark b4/b5 I would say
