I’ve tried to do those works on my new watches and seem did work well!!
They arrived, as always, with very bad noisy rotor, the noise was coming from the balancer wheel cushion.
So I opened the back and applied an half drop of moebius 9104 with a very fine tip oiler, being careful not to get dirty in other places.
Then I applied a better rubber gasket in the recess of the case back and close back the case.
I tested the watch noise and it’s really really silent now, it seems to be very better!!
For obvious reason I can’t try the waterproof at home but I think the new gasket is enough to keep safe the movement from hand washing and some meters under sea

Here are two pictures from the works:

If anyone has any advice to give me they are welcome :) 🙏

This is my first step in watchsmith hobby, next step will be to unmount and remount a 7750 movement :D

nope. A new gasket had to be silicon greased too.

Water can also leak in at the crystal interface and at the crown, and at the tube.

Unless you get the watch formally tested as water resist to a certain bar number, always keep it away from water.

Question are all reps noisy ? clean factory and VSF ? and you need to use the oil listed below or 9000 to silence them?

Moebius 8000

First I’ve bought some different oil and grease including moebius 8000 / 8020 / 9104 / D5 Microgliss
Then I’ve bought some gasket of various dimensions, even the little one for the crown and I’ve bought the hydrophobic grease.
Finally I’ve bought the machine that test the water resistance with co2

Now I’m ready to start trying the water resistance of my watches :)

To silence the rotor I’ve learned to put 1 or max 2 MICRO (you have to use the watchsmith oil dispenser) drops of oil (better the 9104 in my opinion) between the cushion bearing balls and it will be more silent than before.

To do a better work you have to unmount the balancer and clean it with isopropyl alcohol, then lubricate it with 1 drop of oil under the cushion and 2 drops between the bearing balls, that will be ok! 👍

thanks for the prompt reply I have a vsf oyster perpetual with 3235 movement can you guide me where should i use the oil, this is my first experiment as I am learning how to silence the rotor, this watch is only a few weeks old never dropped or anything but the rotor makes a noise with a slight flick of the wrist.

can you tell me if i have to remove the rotor to oil it? as it has a jewel before the screw in the center as per the image, or do i oil it in the circle ?

Simply take something smaller possibile, put it in the oil and let down two drop over the ball bearings at the center of the cushion of the rotor. MINIMUM AMOUNT POSSIBLE!! It’s important that you don’t let the oil fall under the rotor because it can go in other parts and make problems, so at max 2 little drop
Your welcome

Always remove the rotor and apply the oil/grease from then (open) backside.

I do not remove the rotor, but is works for me only to apply over the cushion
What „cushion“?

The open side of the rotor bearing is the back-/underside. Only from there you can apply the oil or grease evenly. Also, after application you need to give it a good clean/wipe from the backside to make sure nothing goes into the movement.

Hence, always remove the rotor when applying oil or grease.

By the way: Use oil for jewel based rotors (like 3135…), and use grease for ball bearing based rotors (like 4130..).

Cushion is the part with the bearing balls!!
And no grease here!! Only oil like hp12000 or so.
To silence the rotor you have to lubricate the spot where the balls flow in the cushion circle

Ok seems you have more knowledge than me after many years of working on watches.

I’m out of here 😅 ✌️

Good luck

I’m not a watchmaker but I read many threads of watchmakers and they say so… I tried it and it worked good, so… what’s the problem? Anyone give their experience to others and then the one who will try the works choose which method use for himself

thank you so much Giammy I did that without removing the rotor and guess what the rotor is silenced.

Thank you so much, one last thing I did not use the oil you use, I am using 8000, is that bad ?

Your welcome 🤗 and good job!
I’m very happy that you silenced your one!
The 8000 is good the same

I also did it the same way because removing the rotor may be better but it’s dangerous too :)

Looking to do the same on my VC Overseas 4500 - I believe it has a Miyota 9015. This will be my first attempt, but need to purchase oil and a set of oilers. Should I use 8000 or hp12000? Thank you!

I used the 9104 but 8000 is good the same :)
Remember to fit gasket in the caseback and in the tube of the crown!
Good luck with your try 🍀 :D

I found the right oil on Amazon
2ml will last forever :D

Be sure to add 1/2 drop at max because if you drop too much oil it will block the parts right under the rotor
