hi everybody,
i am a noob from switzerland.
a few weeks ago i ordered my first watch ever from PureTime. during the shippment the watch got siezed in swiss customs.
first i got a letter form customs, saying they siezed a watch adressed to me and that they informed the legal representative of the watch producer (longines). (i was not really scared since there was no saying about conseqences)

but today i got another letter from the "EDITED BY LOS" saying the following:

swiss customs have reported the following import: (desctiption of the watch)
then a list of all the laws broken by this import
and at the end the following:
"to spare you a lawsuit an additional costs we ask you to read and sign the added commitment"

commitment:
1. i commit myself not ro import or sell any watches protected by swiss laws
1.i pay a lump sum compensation of 269 chf (~270$ the was sent with the letter)
3.i will state the names, adresses, and url's of the provider of this product.

does anyone have an experience with such a letter????
what are your recommendations????
is there anyone from switzerland who had the same problem and solved it?

thanks a lot
pmagnet

ps: if anybody would like to see the letters i can scan and post them

You can scan and post the letters here just hide your name and address and anything.

Honestly I dont know what you could do. Did you get the letter in your post box or you had to sign upon receiving it? If you got it in your post box then I would just suggest you ignore it and if they ask you later on, you never received the letter. What I would do though is just say I did not order such thing, and there must be a mistake. Maybe someone else here can help you but MAN WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING WHEN U ORDERED A REP WHEN U LIVE IN SWITZERLAND?!??! That like buying a russian car in germany when the Nazis were on power!

Do not post any of the letters here...

Please do not bring any unwanted legal attention here... I would advise you to ignore the letter and see what happens... you never opened it... if they send it certified, refuse it as you don't know who the sender is.....

If you are forced to acknowledge it, act confused and tell them you purchased a Seiko watch...

Thats amazing.

I always thought replica watches were a 'grey market' area in that they weren't strictly illegal to buy, but were illegal to sell?

If it is certified and you signed for it, write a letter back stating this:

"Dear Sir or Madam,
I did not know what was inside the package as it was a surprise gift from a long time friend in college. He/she would not tell me what it is, and I insisted that he/she do not send me anything that is illegal or causes any law to be broke where I may face lawsuit, trouble, etc. He/she told me not to worry and that it wouldn't cause me any trouble and sent the package. (You can state that he she sent the package first and told you about the surprise gift afterward).

Truely sorry,
XyKo"

Hope that should help.

@icestorm: since 2008 there is a new law in swiss that forbids owning rep watches even for private use.

Now that sux BIG time...as long as I find Switzerland a nice country, It´s definitely erased from my list of "places I´d consider to live one time".

This is really outrageous...:skeptical:

Cheers,
Spirit.

The organization that sent you the letter is just a non-profit trade group. They are not a government organization. My guess is that if you simply ignore it, that will be the end of it.

Fukc Switzerland. Their government will gladly.......

As much as I respect you and like you, Gio, this is a very silly thing to say and you might want to edit it out.

By the way, more and more European countries are making ownership of reps illegal... Smart buyers should check before ordering...

Mr Gadaffi is about to place a motion before the UN (whos chair he is about to take his turn at) to abolish (his term) Switzerland and split the land up beteen FR, DE and IT. Somehow I don't think it's gunna pass :)

I got in touch with pmagnet..

I also live in switzerland.. I dont care much about the customs.
I ordred also a watch from puretime .. and it went trough the customs. Also replica clothes from China and Turkey.. But i think it deppends much on the shipping service(DHL is the worst)

most of the people here hate Gadaffi! But our politicians are soft and to social and wouldt do any repressions against him..

There is no conquering Switzerland - they are simply too stubborn. Try to rule a country that has four official languages, Rätoromanisch being comparable only to a 1024bit cipher.

But the Lindt & Sprüngli truffles du jour in Zürich are delicious.

And yes, a lot of ppl I know are wondering why the Swiss let Gaddafi get away with that, holding two Swiss business men ransom. I mean - minister makes excuses because his police arrested one of Gaddafis mad wrong-doing sons... get a life.

'Made in FR/DE/IT'
