Hi everyone! after educating myself a lot in the last months thanks to the forum I have decided to be part of it and sharing my journey in the rep world.
The funny thing, is that, I bought my first rep, and still have it, a long ago, in 2006 in Chinatown (NY) it was a seamaster and I still have it....working! but the bracelet at somepoint fell off. At the time, in my 20s, I bought a rolex hunter and a Tag heuer monaco, and I am remembering now that a Daytona as well!! ( the dial went black after a shower).
All of them were what I have recently learnt, low budget reps ( 100 $). After that, the years passed, and now that I have the same love for watches, even more, and the money to buy gen ones, I bought some omegas, breitlings and IWC. But still, there are watches that i love, and are too expensive for what they are in terms of quality (in my opinion) such as vintage rolex or new limited edition Blancpains that are only accesible at crazy prices in the grey market.
And suddenly....I start going deep in the rabbit hole of rep world....and I have discovered that it makes much more sense, and that there is an awesome community behind, and that is not about faking ( at least in many cases like myself) but about enjoying a passion for watches, and even paying tribute to them like with the vintage franken.
that is another story, I have a gen rolex from 1978 that has been serviced and the dial and the hands have been replaced ( not an issue for me ) but at the end....is a little bit of a franken...with everything gen, if it makes any sense haha.
anyway! as soon as I buy my first rep ( maybe a Fiftyfathoms) I will share it with you. in the meantime, i would continue learning and already thinking with my next adquisition...a vintage gmt or sub rolex.
cheers!
