Some people feel it helps to volunteer the "it's a fake" info from the outset rather than there being any room for doubt.

Others, like myself, don't feel the need to make any unprompted confession. I don't need to, because my wife always does it for me: "Oh that thing he's wearing? It's just a cheap Chinese fake, he couldn't afford a real one."
That's how it is with me too. 😅 Women 😇

I wear my Oysterflex WG Daytona to work, and my mate has the Gen RG one. He tried mine and truly found out really quick that it is a replica.. But he also told me, damn, why did I pay so much for mine? I love to wear it, and I don't care what the others think. That's the first and most important step to enjoy your watches.

I told this story in another thread, but I usually donate plasma twice a week. I was in line to get my vitals a few weeks ago, and the guy ahead of me (around 65 yo) had a black sub on - a two-liner! I was in awe (I've never seen one in person), and I complemented him on it.

"Nice watch!"
"Thanks - but it's a fake!"
Not seen him since at the donation center. Maybe the FBI came and took him away.

I have a decent collection of gen and rep...honestly I've never been called out. But I'm pretty selective with what I buy rep wise, and I don't feel the need to volunteer much more than "It's a watch and I like wearing it" regardless whether it's gen or rep!

Hi everyone. New to RWI and reps in general. Just out of curiosity, has anyone been caught wearing a rep? Even the low quality, budget reps seem like they would fool just about everyone.
Caught in what sense?

I would never pass a rep as gen. Some people do and are in constant fear of being caught.

I just love these watches and when I do get my grail gen, I will be buying a rep of it too.

If asked, which is very rare, I always say my watches are reps be they rep or gen, and I say it with a wink to make people wondering I'm telling the truth or not.

I've actually been called out on my watch actually being gen when I said it was a rep and it was because I "didn't look like someone that would wear a fake watch" were the exact words, so it really is all about how you carry yourself.

I love mechanical watches, in particular, very expensive ones that I simply couldn’t afford so a rep makes me happy!

It really depends on the rep. With something like an Omega, people are less likely to assume it’s a fake. But with a Rolex or a homage watch, it’s more likely to raise suspicions. Personally, I’m pretty open about it and usually tell people right away if it’s a rep or a homage. So far, the reactions have always been positive, with most people impressed by how good the watch looks. In my circles, there’s a growing awareness that luxury watches are often overpriced, and a well-made rep can actually be a better option. Even with homage watches, I’ve had people ask me where I got them and how much they cost.

I am of the personal opinion that, at some point, you have to view the luxury watch industry as a vehicle to fleece wealthy people.

I actually own a genuine watch, and funnily enough, it’s an old SMP quartz model. Ironically, people tend not to believe it’s real because it looks old and faded, and the biggest reason: it’s a quartz watch. So the funny part is, I get more positive reactions when I wear a rep or homage, while with my genuine piece, people straight-up assume it’s fake! :D

My gen Patek collection is worth €3M.

Look at my impressive villa.
