You're fine, I wouldn't have taken the bracelet back though. You delivered to him what you offerred accurately, the fact that it doesn't fit his watch is HIS problem not yours. I sell stuff on ebay, buyers like this are very annoying and a big waste of time, thats why a lot of sellers add a 20% restock fee on platforms that allow it.

And yeah, taking the shipping out of it is the best idea because it makes you 100% again. The fact that he expects YOU to take a loss because of HIS issue is f'ing hilarious. You should name and shame this guy so sellers can avoid him.

A general rule in selling - If it's YOUR issue, YOU take the loss, that's good customer service 101. If it's HIS issue, HE takes the loss. It not fitting despite being the accurate 20mm size is HIS issue, not yours. You were sympathetic (which is also good customer service) and offered a refund MINUS your cost. That's 100% fair.
I sell on ebay and do not refund shipping. Unless the item has a mistake on the listing, my error. But not just because they want to whine.

In that case, I can see his point. 2x8,5 out of 60 makes a 28% loss for him and none for you.

I would suggest to send him 4.25 and call it a day.
Shipping doesn't come out of $60, shipping is in addition to. Regardless, he doesn't owe him a dime. He's not a business. The buyer changed his mind, why should the seller lose? Giving a refund, even partially is like letting the buyer scam him.

Why does it not fit? The buyer should know what size his watch is and what kind of bracelet he needs - so if he orders a wrong one, he made a mistake and has to pay the shipping costs for the return.

If the seller made a mistake and sent a wrong or damaged bracelet, the seller should refund the shipping costs for the return.

Did you do a proper sales thread with pics and indicated the size? Was the bracelet in the same condition as the pics when you shipped?

If yes, I feel you did the right thing by refunding, and I also feel it's normal that the buyer eats the shipping as he bought what he saw, and should have asked for measurements prior paying.

Else ask @Itto
They could also send everything to me, i will fix the bracelet and fix the watch and refund both. And give a polish on top.

If the few dollars are so much money for the buyer, then he should get another hobby.
People like that are the reason why I haven't sold anything here yet, because I'm not in the mood for shit like that.

theres alot of variables here

was it listed as a dj bracelet, sub bracelet ?
aftermarket bracelet ?

was it listed as 51.xx and shipping 8.xx
or 60.00 shipping included
or 60 free shipping

i mean you paid the shipping to him and got 60
he paid the shipping back and got 51.xx which using your math would have netted him 43 ish back ?

so now hes out double the shipping cost ?

i do want a link to this sale , or i want an explanation as to why its ok to do backdoor sales please
First of all, I wasn't selling anything. I saw a post from a fellow member saying that he needs a replacement bracelet for his DJ
So I decided to contact him via PM telling him that I have 2 and sent him the pictures so he can choose which one he likes
He pointed the one of his interest, the he asked me how much, then I asked him that how much he think was a fair price !
I was just trying to help someone who has a broken bracelet, but now I see that trying to help is BAD idea
But I am just a collector not a dealer in any way !

If you had gifted the bracelet that would be one thing but money exchanging hands is a sale and if there is no approved sales thread then it is considered a backdoor sale.
I was just trying to help someone who has a broken bracelet, but now I see that trying to help is BAD idea
I commend you for doing that, helping a fellow member is a GOOD idea 👍

Helping out is not a bad thing, nobody says that. But try to see it from this point of view:
It is always better for both, the seller and the buyer, to have it all documented in an official sales thread. You can create a reserved sale in this case. This way there can't be any misunderstandings if something goes wrong.

Seriously guys. I'm pro rwi and pro rules of course.
I know people here from almost day one. I have private numbers and even met a few. Hell I've even sent out watches to people to try them because I consider them friends.
I've sent numerous parts for free or to try if they fit and they paid me afterwards.

Why is he bashed because of the missing sale? Isn't it enough to tell him he won't get a support? It's no watch sale from a shady member or wannabe seller nor of any high value.
He isn't asking for any intervention and even tries to keep the other members details private. He just wants an opinion.

In my opinion you're overreacting a little bit...
