Story: Yeah so I posted a wtb thread there and this guy with 5000 karma (post upvotes) pmed me. Had over a year of history on designer replica (clothing) forums etc. He offered to sell me a noob v4 for td price instead of my $1000 offer.

Well, I trusted the guy because of his history and the way he was talking about realistic shipping methods (1 day shipping from Canada to usa)

I should have known immediately after first transaction his PayPal name being fake (“dasher dash”) and him giving an excuse as to why he couldn’t ship it that day as promised

I asked him to send photos with handwritten note which he did. Should have asked him to do a verified selling thread which requires pic of holding your id selfie style

overall I just had my guard down even send him another $500 for a vsf sub which he also sent a pic of.

my friend also got scammed a day or two before this.

I lost the PayPal dispute. If anyone has ideas for going after this guy let me know paypal emails [email protected] and [email protected]. One fake name dasher dash and other (probably real) name Jordan Leol Parker

overall I blame myself for not requiring formal sale thread. The subreddit admins banned him from everything and he deleted his own year old active account so they did what they could

Tldr I am stupid and inexperienced and trust strangers on internet too much. No noob v4 for me or vsf sub for my friend. Sigh

Sorry to hear about that. This is one of the reasons not to buy from someone who either does not provide ID here or on Reddit - reptimebst. It’s a hard lesson to learn. Another reason why I’m really cautious about Friends and Family on PayPal.

here theres no ID process as far as im aware, but you can tell based on their post history or past deals even more reliably imo

one of my best friends lost $350-400 buying a hulk on there even though the guy created a proper sell thread. the guy provided tracking and just disappeared/blocked

BTW this guy didn't just have a post half a year ago, he had a lot of recent comments on other peoples posts so was recently active.

Yes if you file with PP first and they deny it , a CC charge back after will lock your PP account

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I paid with my bank and already filed a dispute. Pretty sure it’s really hard to get the money back from your bank

What happens is when I open the app again it posts again

Your bank can protect you against fraud. Regardless of the border of course you're protected and thus constitutes fraud as no goods were delivered. Your bank will likely tell you to fuck off and it doesn't meet their definition of fraud as you agreed to purchase the goods and agreed to the transaction and as its not worth their time to go through the hassle but if you get the right teller on the right day you might be in luck. I've had luck before. I've also not had luck before despite a criminal case being opened across the pond.

I think for the sake of my pp account not being blown up and all the work it will take to get the $ back (likely unsuccessfully), I'll just let this one go and chalk it up to me being stupid.

I didn't think the guy would give up his reputation for $1k but he did, I took a risk and it didn't work out.

Sorry to hear that someone is being scam ..... when buying from a seller for a 1st time, do buy smaller or less expensive items..... example, like accessories and etc......
See if you are satisfy with the purchase.... if everything is smooth, do put more trust on the seller and buy more expensive items.....

For the buyer, do file a report with PP and I am sure PP will able to cancel the transaction and return the money to the buyer......
