Gold shade Gen vs Rep - Different between labs?

Hello friends!

I have enjoyed getting into the rep experience. However, I recently ran into an issue between gen and rep that I struggle to get over. I own a couple gens and now acquiring a few reps to enjoy a broader experience. I recently received my sub from VSF and also purchased my Daytona the same week. Both of the watches have an oyster two tone yellow band. I enjoy every detail about the sub, except I cannot get over the shade of the yellow gold on the rep. Gens have this soft shade of yellow gold that I love and the rep is much more of a darker shade. I know I should expected the gold plating to be different but this is glaring to me every time I put it on.

1) I this something I just need to understand and accept? Maybe better I stay away from precious metals?
2) Does the gold plating color change between factories?
3) Any other advise for me?
4) Anyone want to trade the brand-new VSF sub for something all steel?

Appreciate you all!

Mikhail

Where are you based mate? It's possible it's worth paying a bit extra to send out for replating. I also am pretty sure depending on year, batch, etc Rolex Gold shading has changed too.

Most members do shy away from PM, in my honest opinion I would too, all of it doesn't look correct if you own gen, VSF is known to be "cheddary", Clean used to have the best gold tone but they've been slacking recently too,

GMF and BP suprisingly in my humble opinion have the best tone but that doesn't mean it's "close to gen" per say

And then the tungsten models are a whole different beast

You can get a cursory inspection here :

Thank you for the feedback everyone. I have a couple gen two tone watch and so does the missus. I would say I have a very forgiving eye, but I can’t get over how dark “cheddar” this band is. It’s suck a large part of the watch.

I am in the US, so sending back to China does y make sense. If anyone doesn’t mind this and wants to trade, I am very open to all options!

There are plenty of american platers mate. Just check out the parts side of things.
I would definitely be open to solutions, but I am not quite following what you mean by the "parts side of things".

At this point I would even be happy if I could have this converted to oyster flex .

You can try this area for services and parts providers. I’ve been starting to look into plating also in for the US, and I’ve heard Major Williams does plating, although I don’t have personal experience yet. Maybe reach out to him if you’re sufficiently motivated enough to get your rep plated.

To make sure you are aware though, you’re looking at considerable cost and time for this route. I’d expect to measure the time in months, rather than days or weeks. Your other course of action is to watch the member to member sale forum to see if anyone decides to sell a piece they’ve already had professionally modded and plated. Good luck!
