What’s the colouring like in comparison to gen? Could you do the same for Rolex’s?

Hi,

I kinda new here, you did the plating yourself i guess? If so, which what case did you start with? (I mean steel/RG plated already?)
Is that your pieces or you did these on demand?
Any chance to have some pics on these watches after a year or two? I've read here an interested post about the gold plated Rolex, and some turned copper.

Bty, they look so good !! Thanks

No matter what plating is done, it will not be permanent in terms of color or consistency.
Flying-tommy's plating is good as far as this hobby goes, but like any of us he cannot beat the logic of science and nature.
You will be reassured however to know that even gen gold watches change color over time when exposed to sunlight, mineral from our body perspiration and the atmosphere, and heat. I have seen discolored gen gold APs before more than I would have liked to.
Having seen firsthand flying-tommy 's plating work, I can attest that the color is close enough to pass off as gen, taking into account that the gold tone of brand new gens will differ from the gold color of say, a watch which has been worn consistently for 2 years under the tropic sun. Gold plating color, like solid gold alloy 22k purity and below, WILL react to the elements over time. Both 18K solid gold (used by luxury watch makers) and plated gold are not immune to tarnish or color changes.

Doing plating myself, I second what A. says. Gold WILL change its color over time, especially the rose one.

Good thing is you can always apply another layer on top of it quite easily, all it needs is literally 5 minutes of work once the base is plated already.

Superb work, that 15400 with gen dial looks perfect.

These quality platings are a must on reps you want to keep.

Thanks for the details legend !

The questions may be stupid but.. what do you mean by applying an other layer quite easily, 5 minutes seems crazy ahah, what are the steps? Do you "just" take off the movement and dive the whole watch in the bath (or not as long as it is waterproofed..?)? Do you repolish it before or the gold will fill the scratches and everything? These process are incredible

The gold plating is of course a gold plating as described by Legend and not a solid gold watch.
The gold plating needs to be lightly polished from time to time, I use CapCode for this. You don't have to apply a lot of pressure, just a very light polish.

We built my first RGRC exactly two years ago. The watch happened to be here 3 weeks ago to have the glass and strap changed.

Here some pictures from this plated RGRC after 2 years.

Most requests for gold plating are for Rolex.
We have matched the gold tones exactly to the original gold by having original watches, or parts.

Here is a Gen Rolex YG DayDate Caseback from the owner in Comparison with his plated Rep.
He used the plated Rep from Mo-Fr and weekends the Gen Watch.
