I'm thinking to buy one cheaper base model of gen PAM. Most likely I'd just own 1 gen and thinking if the new 8 days movement is worth the upgrade or should I just stick to the ETA based base models? I'm thinking PAM000 for the one and only gen PAM. what you guys think and suggest me options (at a cheaper level).

To me the base models are so easily repped there is no point to get a gen. Especially one with closed case back. The gen I own is a 422. Not as well repped for now.

I have a gen372 and its my most loved. Gets so much wrist time! Never held a rep 372 for comparison but as soon as I saw the gen 372 at the boutique I knew this would be a watch I would love for many years and that justified the purchase.

372 is a real beauty. Debated long and hard between that and the 422!

I understand not to buy the closed case back for a gen but I'm thinking in terms of only gen. But please give the options.. am still thinking about it.

In my opinion, Gen PAMs should have an in-house movement:
422 for 47m open case back, 590 8 giorni 44m closed case back, 514 open case back 45mm.

422 could be find pre-Owned at a good price close to the 590. 514 is a different league but should not be repped so easily.

I would definitely go for something with an in-house movement. Paying 5-8K+ for something with a ETA movement worth a couple hundred dollars is madness to me. The decorations are nice but they're not 5-8k nice.

Exactly!! Would love a gen and Pam 0000 looks nice but way too expensive for Unitas. Same as Hublot and its Big Bang/sellita

514 is Radiomir and 47mm. I think you meant another model number.

I agree with what others have said above - with PAM, if you are going gen, make sure you get something that isnt readily available as a rep. The reps are so close that it almost doesnt make sense to by the gen of the same counterpart. Go with something unique.

If you're looking for 44mm, my top choice would be the 233. 8 day power reserve, GMT and date complications. If you prefer base dials then I'd get the 510 or 590 8 day in house.

My 2 cents: don't get a Gen panerai if it's not a true in house movement.

Sure get the in-house ones with micro rotor and all but certainly not pam111 where it's superbly overpriced for what it is.

Panerai claim to fame is being the expert in finishing of the watch movements. Even with that, it's a high markup. Most of panerai cases are simple and does not require expert polishing techniques.

Definitely go for a PAM with an in-house movement such as the 312 or 233 / 270. Any of the historic PAM's such as the 111 aren't worth the gen imo considering how good the reps are already. At the end of the day it comes down to your decision and do post your gen pix when you get it ;)

312 is unwieldly on the wrist. its a little too thick for a 44mm watch. this goes without saying, but make sure you try all these on first to assess comfort and fit! 233 > 312 by a long shot, but is also quite a bit more expensive.

the problelm with in-house pams, the price. at this price point you can get some pretty mean toys: JL or AP...
