My point in all of this gen discussion is this: buy what YOU will love. The majority of ppl will rarely notice what's on your wrist, so don't worry about trying to garner praises from others for what fine taste you have in timepieces. Make sure that when you look at that gen on your wrist, your first reaction is pleasure from how much you enjoy looking at it and wearing it and not pain from how much you spent on it.
With all this gen chat, felt I should post a pic of mine:
I pretty much decided to go either 233 or 270. Those two are my closest call to my preference list but...
I do not like AM/PM indicator at newer models of 233 (old dot makes much more sense to me) and I totally do not understand why they made 270 as automatic with 10 days power reserve windows. It only made the case thicker...
I'd pick the 388 as it has an in-house movement and an open caseback, which makes it a "super-gen" I'd only get a gen PAM of these ones nowadays and stick to reps for the rest, so buy the 380 as rep, and you won't regret any of these purchases.
I share the exact feeling lol Why pay 10X premium when I can get the same thing for much less. I am a believer in personal attachment to the watch rather than the brand. Means if you love the looking and the feel of the watch, find it with best value. Like when you see 2 exact same looking chairs with slightly different nuts and bolts used, are you going to buy the premium one with luxury brand or an oriental made for a fraction of the price? To me, I go the cheaper when they are pretty much the same.
