GMF vs CF GMT-Master II Bezel Click Action

Hey repfam,

Question, for those of you who have had the chance to handle either, what are your opinions on the GMF and CF bezel click action on the GMT-Master II?

Just some context, I had the GMF 116710 LN, which I loved, but the Sub No-Date was calling me and I answered - I am not a collector so I've sold the GMT to fund the No-Date. The bezel action on the GMF was excellent, like really good, it had very little play and a nice satisfying click - similar to GEN which I had an opportunity to handle so knew what to look for.

Recently, I also got my hands on a friends CF GMT-Master II Pepsi, which was a stunning piece, but the bezel action was terrible. Lots of play and no click - massive tell.

Is this normal variance in reps and I was lucky with my GMF - or is this a factory issues and the GMF is just superior to CF (as is my current view)?

I am looking to get a GMT-Master II Batman for my brother, and this is the deciding factor for me.

Thanks all!

Sorry for posting early by mistake,

You were not lucky with your GMF since they have a good bazel click, as i noticed in my GMF submariner ( but will never say “Similar to Gen” because it is not since that i already own a GEN sub

For CF, i already ordered the GMT pepsi from CF and it should be on the way soon, I read to many opinions regarding this watch including people saying that bazel is bad, finaly decided to see it in person, hopefuly it will arrive soon and i can update you with that

You will hear something like “If you want a GEN go buy a GEN” and also “Don’t expect ~500$ watch te be same quality as 7000+$ watch” and “rep will always be rep” ;p

I completely agree, what I meant by 'similar to gen' is that the bezel action is acceptable. The GMF bezel action is great, but it's very stiff and has a little bit of play, that the gen simply doesn't have.

The CF Submariner Bezel is silky smooth - like it's incredible. I don't understand how the CF GMT bezel is this bad?!

Well they have experience since YEARS (former called ZZF) with bezel click system on Submariners (Springs, Balls).

But GMT Master is Different.
And they use a too large Bezel Spring there and lube with a lot of fat underneath.
Replace with Gen bezel spring and its perfect - a small thing.

hmmm , some would say it not worth to upgrade the bazel to GEN and spend around 2000$ , for me i will wait for my watch to arrive and then decide -.-

Regards back;)

Yeah, angry only if triggered:p

Well its not 2k mate, the bezel is good. Talking only about the bezel spring. Arf or vrf would do it also.

My friend, read my signature...;)
I only mean to change this part:

Thanks man!

Just to confirm, if I replace this part it will fix the problem with the bezel action and be closer to gen?

Yes, it it a little bit to loose in the clean.
I know a good modder in the german community, and every time a german speaking guy gets a clean GMT, the first thing they do, is send him the watch for this mod. its like day and night:)

Thanks mate - this has eased my concerns. The other plan was to buy both a GMF and CF version, then just smash the best of both together, but if a simple spring just needs replacing that's far easier! Which I can also do myself.

Does anyone know if the aftermarket bezel springs will fix the clean gmt's bezel action? Or do you need to get a Gen spring?

And is it better then the Clean One ?

The Clean one is too big. You won't get any clicking feedback with it. I have gen pepsi so I know how the click is supposed to feel like.

If you don't want to spend money, you can try to bend the Clean spring into a wavy form to shrink it slightly and hope that it clicks a little

IMO the best way is to buy and install this - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002239214415.html

Do the little lobes cause the clicking action? If they're too tight against the clicking ring would it make sense to sand down the inside face to effectively make them smaller?

Or when you say too big do you mean they don't touch the click ring?

The stock CF click spring doesnt contact the grooves of the retaining ring sufficiently so it only gives a gliding feedback when you turn the bezel

But the replacement spring will hug the grooves tighter and give the clicking feedback

It's hard to convey this observation in words. It's best you buy a CF and dismantle the crap bezel to see what is underneath lol

But you can also save yourself the trouble by directly getting a V5 GMF pepsi, they are very nice and have a good click spring
