Gen wearer complimenting a rep

Not the most interesting or original thread this, just curious on others thoughts.

I've mentioned in previous posts that I meet many people with nice watches in my line of work. Yesterday was no exception.....guy comes in, takes me about 5 secs to identify the Rolex on his wrist.

Anyway, we engage in non-watch conversation and as things go we realise that (in a business sense) we might just be beneficial to each other. So he asks for my email. As I'm writing it down he notices my rep. "That Chopard is a beauty. I was considering one of those for myself, you have good taste".

I was wearing my Narikaa GT XL (which most of us know is inexpensive) and my first thought was 'Oh shit'.

I brushed his comments off and said I was very happy with it.

It's very, very rare that someone comments on one of my watches. I must admit to feeling kind of smug when he left. Had a smile on my face for the remainder of the afternoon. :)

Nice!! I had a long conversation with a guy wearing a gen Pam while I was wearing a 127 I used to have. Even though the rep wasn't that great he was really into it!!

I get compliments on my Brietling SuperOcean Heritage all the time. Like Ben Affleck said in Boiler Room... "Act as if."

My best friend bought a gen Super Avenger for himself for Christmas, and he's just as interested in my reps. We both think it is a really interesting trade - the whole counterfeit goods market.

I complimented a friend of mine yesterday who was wearing a gen Audemars Piguet Rubberclad. He told me about how he used to have more APROO's and a bunch rolexes, a hobby that got out of hand, and complimented me back right after on my DSSD.

He didn't have a clue it was Lay's 88$ version :)

I think this is fairly normal, especially given the fact that gen wearers are fairly oblivious, because as col said, they don't have to be clued up on every minor detail if they buy brand new from an AD...

It's a great topic for discussion though, because if nothing else it puts into perspective how good our 2 and 300 hundred dollar reps really are - and as you say, a compliment always feels good!
