After months and months of TheSociety talking about building a couple of 6542's using genuine Rolex movements and him and I continuing to stay in touch about the progress of them, he finally finished the one I was in discussion with him on. Today it arrived!

I am blown away by his level of detail with his builds. This build is my second of two "keepers" from him, the other is my 6538 with a lot of gen parts as well.

Photos do this zero justice compared to how it looks in person but I thought I'd share what's a very special build and something I'll never part with given how increasingly rare these gen movements are becoming. If you've ever considered having TheSociety build you a watch that you'll hold onto, don't consider it, do it. Save up your money and have him build you the watch of your dreams. You can only wear one watch a day and I'm increasingly convinced having several really unique/special pieces is more rewarding than a dozen or two "every day" reps you can buy off the shelf.

Details:
TheSociety 6542 Caseset
TheSociety 6542 Gilt Dial (actually aged to a tropical over years not chemically aged)
TheSociety Bakelite Bezel (old stock 10+ years old with natural patina)
TheSociety Hour/Minute Hands
Genuine Rolex 1030 GMT Movement recently serviced
Geuine Rolex GMT Crown
Genuine Rolex Seconds Hand
Genuine Rolex GMT Small Arrow Hand
Genuine Rolex Roulette Date Wheel
RIDICULOUS chamfers

Enjoy!

My payment is headed to the man in a day or two and then it's Pan Am time :)

I'm a Daytona guy but this might be my favorite watch ever. Can't wait to see the two of ours side by side in the flesh A!

These are genuine Rolex Dwarf GMT hands:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Rolex...298169?hash=item33d8f57979:g:74MAAOSwbRJZvrxO

https://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLEX-VINT...636528?hash=item489bafd2b0:g:7OcAAOSwHZ1ZwXb4

You'll no doubt notice the slightly elevated prices, the corrosion on the steel, and the patina on the lume and the paint - they are after, all 50 - 60 years old .

Then there's this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1675-GMT-small-arrow-hand-vintage-luminous-/172524073022

World Time is Phongs Ebay account. You'll notice the pristine steel, the immaculate paint, and the lume color which is remarkably similar to yours - you'll also notice there's a big difference in price.

This is the number 26 on a genuine Rolex 6542 roulette date wheel (second pic in the diaporama):

http://www.chrono24.fr/rolex/1957-rolex-gmt-master-no-crown-guard-ref-6542--id6991157.htm

You'll notice that it's not left justified like yours, that the font is not the same, and that there is a huge difference in the quality of the printing.

There is no such thing as a 'GMT crown', and really, I'd love to know how anybody can tell that the insert is 10 years old - looks new to me. LOL.

Used car lot salesmanship at it's best folks - enjoy.

Oh, and here's that 'genuine Rolex' second hand - along with the other hands:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/GMT-1675-6...hash=item2a6dfa2678:m:mH7pCvbOIaCtBX17WqQijlg

Same lume, same color, same crappy application, same everything.
