Great comparison and lots of pictures, you would not notice half of the things pictured here If you would not know!

Thanks a lot for the great comparison. These posts take a lot of time and effort, and you did an amazing job!

I personally have two main tells to spot a rep from a gen. The first is the cyclop. That's something you can notice immediately even from a distance (the AR and magnification). If you get to handle the watch, the operation of the bezel is the second instant give-away, as it's a lot smoother on the gen.

You state that you prefer the operation of the rep in terms of use of the GMT hand etc. I think the gen is actually nicer, as it lets you move the hour hand in hour increments quickly, which is great when you go from one timezone to the other. But I see your point. What is also interesting is the absence of quick-set for the date on the gen (i.e., you have to turn the hour hand forward or backwards till you reach the desired date).

Anyway, thanks again for a super post!

I recently ordered the GMT reps that were part of the RWI promotion form timeshops. These were the first reps I ever ordered. I ordered the 2836 and the 21j. They both seem to be great watches thus far. Today I noticed a difference in the date font.

(sorry for crappy iPhone pics)

The 2836 is on the left and the 21j is on the right.

The rotor was also loose in the 2836 when I got it, so I had to open up the back and screw it back on. I had a good chuckle at the spelling on the rotor.

An incredible post by a man with a very keen eye for detail... We should be sending all our gens and reps to these guy for comparisons.

Thanks for this wonderful post. I will certainly buy my next GMT rep from your source because the difference between the genuine watch and your rep is minuscule. The real watch is certainly not, in my opinion, worth the big bucks when the rep is so very close.

Don't say this again...
Gen watches are not good enouph, only when the rep is not..Their quality and finish makes most reps look crap to a trained eye...

Also nice copy but not enouph i will say..
The Solid end link on the GMT-C rep is so far away that makes it the easiest watch to tell apart from long distance..

Because when it is close you can tell really easy..

Serious rep points for this one. Thank you, sir.
Now they need to issue a gen with no date mag and were good to go lol

Ive owned both a cheap rep & a genuine GMT Master 2 SS..........had the gen for about a year & then sold it after prices went up so I didnt lose any money. As for the rep from Mark, it looks pretty good & like others have mentioned, unless you sell gens for a living or have them side by side, no one will be able to tell the difference.
