That's what I thought too. Anyone else want to chime in here?

I would say rep, the pin in the crown guard holding in the lever doesn't look right.... the pin is slightly too large, and too close to the inside edge of the guard. All the genuines I've seen appear to have a better finished assembly. The closest of which is the one found in Davidsen's versions (although Davidsen's version has the problem of not being flushed with the surround). For these reasons, I would say the one shown in your picture is a rep.

If this is a rep then it has the best replica movement EVER. The engravings are so clean they scream gen.

Looks like an "E" on the serial number, too. Did you say it was a "D"?

I was only pointing out the "E" becuse the initial poster said it was a "D". I was more interested if it was being sold as a "D" which would lead me to believe the front is sketchy - and faked shots of a gen for the back.

From what I have seen and learned here (on this forum) buying from anyone other than an AD would be questionable without the watch in hand - or at least some good references. Maybe this guy (the original poster) has other variables.

The question I have to ask is since the rep is so damn good now why would you buy a gen of this watch?

the pin in the crown guard is not always flush. here is a pic from tz of a gen 195 for sale at 11,900.00 the pin in my 195 from davidsen looked exactly like this right out of the box. pretty good i would say for 350.00.

I find this all very funny. Even experts like Enzo are cautious in the assesment of this watch. OK I'll say it. I hope it is a rep. I think it is Gen (but what do I know). I have a 111h and at certain angles the hand looks elevated. I have seen my share of Gens and the thing that bothers me is that offset mounting of the seconds. It may just be me but I have not seen that poor of a finish on a gen yet. AGAIN could be just my experience. I want one by the way. LOL Enzo you rock!

Sorry gents but it's a gen...at least judging by dial text.

Check those perfectly positioned horizontal cross bars on letter 'A'...so far none of PAM rep dial factories made this one right. Cross bars on rep dials letter A are placed too low. This has been the case (or should I say 'plaque') with all rep Base and Marina dials.

I've seen gens on Paneristi with 'dodgy' lever pin before, so I guess even Panerai CG makers aren't always consistent themselves :)

cheers,
babola

i don't understand why the cannon pin is recessed if it is a gen. with that said it is very beautiful and i agree that as good as some of our reps are i see no need to buy a gen unless you have a hang up with reps.

I said it once and I say it again, you rock. I think it is a gen that I wouldn't buy. "We" could do better on a service. Lots of work done on this.

I'm so thankful I have learned so much about wathes on this site!

Took it to a local Panerai dealer, and it's Gen. The guy had it for about a half hour and had it looked at by other people in the store, and he said he was 110% it was real.

As for the Canon pin, it might be the picture, because it's not even remotely recessed. I have it in front of me now.

As for why buy a gen? Because a Gen is a Gen. It's the reason that reps, no matter how good, are only resistant to 30 meters. The fit and finish of a gen will ALWAYS beat out a rep, no matter how good the rep. I know this will ruffle some feathers, but, it's the absolute truth.
