Greetings and salutations RWI folkie folks!
The story begins whilst My father and I perusing the Jewelry Outlet in San Francisco to browse the used Rollie market. It was here that I spotted a grey market dealer carrying two 16610 LV subs... marked up an extra 500 from retail of course. I oogled and oogled them, and unfortunately, dad took notice.
He wasnt around for most of my childhood. Even through highschool and college. I guess now that i'm in my 30's, he felt that there was a great amount of time lost
I could tell he regretted it greatly and had an inkling that he would later pick up the LV for me. Try as i might to convince him to save his hard earned money, he still went ahead and picked it up
He called it "the remorseful gift" for all the years lost
that was heart wrenching - maybe over the top drama on his behalf, but we both shed some tears [smilie=sad5.gif]
As for the LV, He picked up this beauty at Davidson & Licht for complete retail price of 5525. 500 dollars less than grey market! and an AD to boot! SUCK it grey market!
I am particularly fond of the green (Kermit) bezel insert
It provides a nice contrast to the black dial, and works well with my everyday casual wear. Along with that, the maxiDial and larger hands really help in reading time faster for my poor aging eyes
PLUS my whole collection is filled with black bezel black dial watches  i need some damn variety!
I also took a gander at the CG's
i think they're a bit off! should i mod them? LOL got my sandpaper ready!
One of the things i noticed was the Crystal profile. For the longest time, and for some strange darn reason, i had always thought the crystal would be taller? Maybe i got that confused with the SeaDweller.
Some macro shots. The laser etched crown was impossible for me to capture. It is definitely a lot more fine then on the rep.
a nice closeup of the gorgeous Pearl. This is missing even in many of the aftermarket inserts i find. I'll have to shoot BK a PM to find a new source for the noobie.
A side comparison. The one thing you will notice is that the Genuine is a lot brighter - and that is due to the 904L ss used, which contains Nickel. Vs that of the noobmariner's typical 316(?) ss. There's also a great difference in the crown shape too. My current noobmariner has an aftermarket bezel and modded CG's. Once we get that BK crown in there, it should look damn close to gen i'd say. Also of course  datemag and rehaut - now i'm being anal.
Here's a profile comparison with the gen on top. You'll quickly notice the bezel lip is a lot flatter, and the insert sits more at an angle on the noobmariner. That lip has always bugged me
the bezel xstal height surprised me as i thought the gens were taller.
a peak at the caseback, which also slightly differs -but who's gonna stare at the back of Noob and say "OMG it's wrong!" My noobie bracelet is not the noob bracelet. I dont know where i got it from - i think a member. I think it came off of another Sub, possibly an ETA sub cuz the bracelet was a lot smoother than the noobie bracelet. Still a rep bracelet though, and one thing i immediately noticed was that BOTH the damn gen bracelet and the rep bracelet share the same sharp characteristics
the GEN is also LIGHT, giving it that cheapy feeling (i feel the bracelet digging into my skin already
). One thing to note is the gen bracelet fits more snug - each link is a tad shorter than the rep counterpart - and the gaps between the links smaller. The crown on the clasp is SPOT on though.
another profile for viewing pleasure. The same sharp angles existing on the rep surprisingly is existing on the gen too (like around the lugs) I thought it would be smoother
Overall, i love this gift. Who wouldn't? This watch has been reviewed a zillion times so u guys know its pluses. But what this watch now has is a sentimental meaning - a watch at the time which my old man couldn't really afford but spent anyways. Thanks dad! luv u lots!
I hope you guys enjoyed this somewhat review-but-not-really & some of the pics and comparison images!
this is the Crickstah! saying "nGnEeeaarrrrgh!"
