Anyone know any alternative options over buying a gen crystal? Friggen hell I'm gonna have to sell a full watch for this piece? lol

The rep crystal is wayyyy too blue (in direct sun light), got called out (on wearing a rep) the other day @ my friends dealer. I'm going retarded now trying to correct this flaw.

Thoughts or recommendations?

PS: I "thought" and was led to believe the crystal I have on my franken was gen. In the house the crystal looks fine, but (as most already know) in direct light the blue laughs in your face.

I haven't seen the finished product personally, but based on my understanding the crystals still too blue...and to grab a rep crystal + double AR - it still runs over $100.00. Might as well go gen...

AD + rep?

Q,

My very close friend is an ambassador for Omega and operates the dealer. Im in there all the time. Don't mistaken my scenario for something COMPLETELY different. We're a group of guys comparing reps and gens, I was just surprised how fast they picked up on my franken...

No matter what you do now, they'll always know. If it was me, I'd go for the gen crystal assuming it will fit.

Sounds like a Gen PO will be the only way to completely satisfy you.

Q, I'm not reckless, cant believe you doubted me :frusty:

I had my whole watchbox there. One of the new guys called out my PO being a rep. No one really knows why he thought that (he's new), but something tells me it was because it was on a NATO strap.

I'm glad you qualified your actions. I feel better now........

This is probably the route I'm gonna go...

I can get a discount on new watches. A very reasonable discount, but not on parts. Ofrei (in the US) is the only distributor of Gen Omega parts i've ever heard of in North America. In Canada, Omega service centres are the only places that stock parts and they will only sell the parts if they are installed in the same service centre by an Omega tech.

Is he not able to get some type of discount?

Wrong. I'm actually not a huge fan of the PO. I like the watch but what drew me to it was every other person on here building frankens. Building the watch and making it as gen like as possible (because you can with this model) is what keeps me interested.

If I was as obsessed with the PO as some others on here I would have already bought a gen. I did with the chrono and non-chrono Seamaster professionals.

The blue on rep PO is just too blue...its a turn off, I just never realized how blue it was until a few days ago...

Sounds like a Gen PO will be the only way to completely satisfy you.

Guys do I get the gen crystal ring too?

I don't know about the 42mm but with my Upo the ring need work cause was thicker. Better use the rep one and save your time and effort...

Well, an option is to get it double ar-sided. I have my 45 mm po with double sided AR from finedd, the tint is more goldish but is not very apparent(only in certain angles) and people do not even notice that the tint is yellow when I ask them. Although there are other AR specialists who can make the tint more blue-ish.

The awesome ar job finedd did costed me about 60€, 78$ still cheaper than the gen crystal! But if you want the real tint the gen crystal is certainly the way to go

The a/r color on my gen 42mm PO was a little bluish in some light, and if you tilted it, pinkish. <-Just for reference

Interesting subject. You guys made me take my 4th gen 42mm PO out of the case and take a close look. I see no blue whatever even out in direct sunlight. In fact I was pretty impressed. I forgot how good looking a watch it is. Haven't worn it for many months.

I think the 4th gen crystal was different (A/R tint) compared to v5.

Back then, everyone would send their crystals to Chief to get his double A/R treatment - clear without any tint. Most of us preferred that vs the gen crystal actually.

why would anyone of sound mind..>>>

Even consider paying $180. for a watch crystal that wasn't firmly affixed to a functioning wristwatch..???
I've got to admit, after @ 5 years of watching "UPOmania" manifest itself as one of the most insidious afflictions in "repdom", only rivaled by "Bestsubitis",it has been amusing!!:wub::picard:

I'm glad you find it amusing but you are mistaken. If you use the rep gasket it works perfectly. Mine passed 3 BAR testing. Best money I ever spent on both of my Frankens.

Pics' for proof..........
