Good morning everyone, I open this post to share experiences and seek advice on building a YM 126655 franken.
I am writing to you from Italy and I use the translator, I apologize for my poor English.
Given the length of the post, for convenience I will use bold and underlined font for the questions.
I'll open a small aside about myself, I've been a member of the forum for 8 years, I've always been an attentive reader of the topics that interested me and I used the platform to find out about the best reps and have contacts with TDs.
I mainly bought a few reps to see if I liked the watch model and then bought it gen.
Now returning to the project, I have been in love with YACHT MASTER 126655/116655 for some time, this watch in the gen version is currently beyond my financial means but I said to myself, why avoid a watch that I like so much just because I can't afford it?
Here is the idea of creating a FRANKEN watch for my first time.
What I would like to do initially is purchase one of the two reps following a criterion and then initially make two changes:
-general glass
-More precise gold plating
I assume that whoever will be in charge of changing the glass can also clean and lubricate the movement and fix any misalignment of the rehaut
I read many things about the purchase, on the "aesthetic" details the quality of CLEAN and VSF is renowned
where the second is preferred by me for the VS3235 movement, however both of these references lack weight compared to the gen.
The options to avoid this problem are TED and GOLD FACTORY, if I understand correctly TED is a VSF with gen weight and VS3235 movement and I really like this.
-Compared to the gen weight of around 156 grams, how close is the TED?
-In the GEN version do the two references 126655/116655 have the same weight? Do they only vary due to the crown on the crystal at 6 o'clock?
I also saw the ARF version with the gen weight, it features the VR3235 movement but I didn't find many feeds on this ARF factory version on the market, to understand if it combined the quality of the aesthetic details with the weight and how it compared to the two competitors with the weight of the gen.
-Given the idea of creating a Franken, which as an initial mod will have GEN crystal and plating mod, what would you opt for?
-Are the two references fitted with the same crystal?
-If they have a different crystal, will it be easier and cheaper to find a crystal from one reference rather than another?
Getting to the plating and mods part:
-Are there just modders who do better plating or do some also do gold plating which is supposed to be the strongest workmanship of all?
-Which forum providers perform these services in Europe? Obviously for customs reasons I would stay in Europe but I accept advice.
-Is there any modder who could, in addition to plating the watch, also service and clean the movement and replace the crystal or should I rely on multiple suppliers in two different phases?
Can you give me an indication of what, according to your experience, the costs for these services could be:
-Cleaning the movement, lubrication and any aesthetic adjustments such as ... misaligned
-Crystal replacement
-Gold plating closer to gen and thinner over time.
I hope that you can become passionate about my project and help me in the choices that this will require, I hope that my post can also be useful in the future to help people get closer to the gen of these wonderful references.
I ask the mods to move the post if it is not in the appropriate section.
I can't wait to read your answers written from some beach in a hot August.
