Hey all, so I am planning to build a 16200 like the picture attached below. I have never built a watch before, but I have been reading on the forum quite a bit. I am excited to get started, but I do not know where to source the parts. This is the parts list I am working with - please let me know if something needs to be changed.

-Silver sunburst datejust dial
-Sapphire 25-295c crystal
-600 crown? Or 603 crown? (Startime says 603 is correct, but I have seen others use 600)
-Smooth bezel
-Tudor Hands
-ETA 2878
-Oyster bracelet
-DWO
-16200 case

Where can I buy the parts? Is it possible to build the watch with the only gen part being the dial? Thanks.

Wow! You just missed one of these that stonep had for sale
OK, case, contact jmb and see if he can get you a case with smooth bezel and bracelet.
I'm not sure about the 2878- why not a 2824-2?
DWOs are around- keep looking.
Or contact mymanmatt and have him build a watch- he can do it.
Might even be able to get you a dial...

Thanks. Yeah I know I missed out on stonep's. Beautiful piece, but I really want to try to build one myself.

Do you know which crown is correct?

Are the 2878 and 2824-2 movements interchangeable? Or will only one fit in the case?

Ok, hold on a second....

Do you have any experience building watches?

Next question. Do you have tools?

The fact that you are asking for help as to where to source parts leads me to believe neither of those answers are "yes". I commend you for the "do it yourself" attitude BUT if you dont have someone, hands on, showing you how to do this, this is a very unrealistic first build. There are literally a hundred things that could go wrong and there is a steep learning curve for watch making that starts out at a place far, far away from building a watvh that you would actually wear out in public. My advise is to get in touch with someone like stonep and let him build you a watch. THEN go buy a cheap but nit canal vheap rep that is a gigh tolerance piece..like a cartel sub and TAKE IT APART AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER. That will be a journey unto itself that will see you purchase some tools as you go and give you enough experience by the end to know what you know and more importantly, what you DONT KNOW. Trust me. Please disregard this if you have already a level of experiencen it just seems by your questions that you are just getting started here..GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the responses. I am definitely just beginning here...

However, I am starting to realize this may be a little more difficult than I was realizing. I will look into finding a builder. Any recommendations on who is the best? mymanmatt? stonep?

Is it possible to have one built with all rep parts except for the dial gen??

Either mymanmatt or stonep are fine-
Yes, it's possible to build a DJ with just the gen dial and the rest rep parts. You might keep your eyes peeled for a dial- ebay is a good place to start.

You dont need someone to build anything per se. Just buy a DJ rep that you like..and then buy a gen dial to replace the rep dial. You can send the watch and dial to virtually any watch smith and they can cut.the feet and dial dot the gen dial into the rep watch. Its not supet easy but ita not siper hard. Any of the pros here can do it.

I think I may give that a try. The problem I'm having is sourcing the rep DJ. None of the TDs I've contacted have the 16200. Would want ETA movement.

Kidding right? Do you want smooth or fluted, oyster or jubilee? Do yourself a favor and email Toro or any of our td's and tell them what you want and they will get it for you very easily. What you are looking for is quite possibly one of the easiest wtches to find ever..Also, forget "swiss eta" just get a clone movement..easier to fix and quite reliable

You could always choose a nice one like from Intime and try to wear it out of the box.
Or stick to the original plan more or less and send money to one of the modders.
Some dials are so good they (almost) don´t need a replacement, the most obvious part is the insert corrected "bezel":)- that should be gen.
Good luck - either way

Have had zero luck sourcing a rep 162xx from the TDs...really want to build a franken DJ, but I am struggling to source the parts. Have tried reaching out to stonep for advice, no reply from him - seems like he is unwilling to help.

Also tried to PM mymanmatt, but it says he doesn't accept PMs

I ordered a franken DayDate 18238 build from him, I look forward to receiving the watch

Just be aware that there might be a wait time - I waited for 1 month before he could start work on my build because there are a lot of customers queuing lol

Yeah that is understandable. Yet a good sign for his high quality work. I'd love to build myself a watch in the meantime. Do you have any idea where he and the other builders source their parts? For being a community forum, no one is very open about where they source their parts.
