flat screen tv's, plasma or lcd?

I was at a Sony Style a few weeks back and saw an OLED on display. Beautiful but the price tag was obscene, it was a 13" screen but cost around $2500 CAD. No thanks! It was maybe 3/4 of an inch thick. It was sexy.
The Samsung LEDs are stunning looking TVs and really thin. But they are currently around twice the price of the equivalent sized LCD. If money was no object I'd get one in a heartbeat, but I have reps to buy...
Hitachi started the ball rolling with their thin TV screens this past year or so but they had an umbilical cord attached to a black box containing the tuner and assorted electronics.
Samsung and Sharp are now offering their thin LCD versions with built in digital tuners and NO umbilical cord in Asia. I think I saw a thin Panasonic the other day too. I am sure everyone will be bringing their versions very soon. They are what had been promised many years ago with respect to hanging TVs on walls (ultra thin).
The LCD TVs have a low reflective screen which would make it an excellent choice for a well lit room. They do however tend to be not as natural looking as the plasmas (much more vivid and bright). Movies tend to look better on a plasma but because of the highly reflective screens are best suited for darker rooms.
Best to go and check out the different types of TVs instore and compare. I have both LCD and Plasma and they have their pros and cons as have been noted by others.

Pioneer Elite series Tv's are beaufitul Tv's. The only thing I don't like about Plasma TV's is the heat they give off. We have a 42" Samsung Plasma in our bedroom and it gives off some heat.

seriously i am sure you are right but the problem is i don't understand all of the technical crap. it used to be easy to buy a good television but not now. i just read an article about that very thing. since they are all fighting for the top of the mountain they are making up technical sounding terms that basically mean nothing to describe their (new) technology.

I remember back in the 70's when a stereo system had 50 watts RMS. The Japanese decided that they would invent a new term 'Total Music Power'. They took the 50, multiplied it by 1.7 and then doubled it (because they had 2 speakers). It makes absolutely no technical sense but from a marketing perspective...
Whatever TV you decide to buy you couldn't have picked a better time. The prices have dropped dramatically and with this financial climate there are some great bargains to be had.
