It finally went tonight, I wore my 127 Fiddy tonight and for no apparent reason the the crystal popped, no warning at all,
Has anyone replaced their crystal with the Davidsen crystal or do any of you have any other options to advise on, I'll have to get it replaced with something as its one of my favourite watches.

Help appreciated guys

The design of the curved glass for the fiddy demands nothing less than sapphire. Time and time again these mineral crystals blow up because of the stress. Davidsens sapphire is the answer to this annoyance.

can you post a picture please??

also, is the fiddy more prone to exploding because it is bigger 47mm? do 44mm models explode as well?

I installed a Davidsen in mine after it went. From what I have heard, and experianced, the Davidsen will fit in almost all 127's, so you should have no worries. Also, the beautiful AR on his crystals will give your watch a new, vintage, look that you will love as soon as you see it installed. It's completely worth the dough.

Just be sure you know what you are doing when you install it. I broke the first one trying to get it in.

You can see pictures of mine here.

Yes, the 47mm replica PAM's have a problem with exploding crystals when they are NOT genuine sapphire. The ones that break are typically mineral crystal. Many 127 owners who thought they had genuine sapphire have been awkwardly suprised by this, as you can imagine.

JB, I owned the very same model, the xtal exploded while typing a memo on a PC. Basicaly these particular e0581/1950 Fiddys are a bad news my friend, mineral glass (sold as sapphire), hybrid Asia/Swiss 6497 mov't (sold as Swiss). I had a long and painful disussion going on with Andrew (Trusty) at some stage 6-7 months ago re this very watch.

Back then it was being sold for $298 + P&P, told him what I thought was wrong with the watch (it appears I was right on the money) but he simply wouldn't budge. :-(
Not cool at all.

Anyway, those dodgy Fiddys are now all gone from his and other dealers offerings, so lets burry the hatchet on this chapter of dealer/distributor misrepresentation of truth.

cheers,

What is the situation with the 117 case then..?

I had to pop the bezel on my 217 >>>

And it was so tight, there was no way to get it back using the original gasket, so I laid a thin bead of epoxy under the lip of the bezel and reinstalled it..
The original setup is just too much stress on a big brittle expanse of mineral glass...And I don't like the effect of an A/R sapphire crystal on a vintage style watch...If I had to replace it, I'd look for an acrylic setup first!!

The 47mm fiddys are not the only ones that explode!

my andrew minni fiddy ,[ 44or 45mm?] exploded as well, in exactly the same fashion . it too was supposed to be saphire:( my 47 mm MARINA MILITARE from ruby, on the other hand, has survived 8 months of 24/7 wear:)
im sure its saphire , since ive bashed it many dozens of times on the edge of my black glass desk ! the bezel is scratched up but not the crystal .

I purchased my 127 from a board member. Is there any way to tell as a relative noob whether I have sapphire? It's a 117 case, but the crystal was replaced. I have a 212 and the material looks the same. Are there some obvious tells?
