Hi all,

as a first rep watch I want to acquire the F1 Cartier Santos Dumont. However, I would like to ask some questions before I buy:

- I have read a couple of times that the Santos Dumont is very close to the gen. How close is it? If I have both watches - gen & rep - next to each other. Would one be able to tell which one is gen. Of course, it goes without saying that we disregard the strap. Is it really possible to have a rep indistinguishable from the gen or do I have wrong expectations regarding the rep market. If my goal is to get a 99% version without paying 5k € for it, are reps the right address or are you saying that no rep ever can match the gen

- Is F1 factory the best producer in terms of similiarness to the gen for the Dumont?

Thank you all in advance

You really need to search and find the F1 thread. It has pictures and a ton of details.

How would we know what YOU will be able to do, not knowing you?

I've never had an identical GEN Dumont next to a replica Dumont on a table next to each other, and I doubt there's many people out there who did. In what scenario would that ever happen?

Assuming we are talking the Small or the Large model, not XL, not gold bezel, not solid gold -- those replicas are not even in the ball park compared to the GEN -- you are still talking about a $200 watch compared to a $4,000 watch, so there will be a difference in quality, for sure. But this difference is insignificant in real life when you are wearing the watch.

It's a great replica, more so for the low purchase price. Intime still offers it for $198, which is a killer price. Won't stay that low for long, as most TDs have upped their prices on this already.

Left is gen
Right is F1
F1 is slightly pinker, slightly less sunburst on the dial. Everything else not really noticeable imo

Do you mean the hands are higher up on the rep?
