daytona4me said:[that point is that the majority of the people out there yell.. "flared balance wheel.. this means it's asian" and I have always felt that this is total bullshit. I also feel it is bullshit for someone to assign a "swiss" or "asian" title basede on Novodiac or Incabloc.
cybee said:I agree with you daytona...mucho BS'ing going on. Some think they know, some wanna know, and some don't know. Check out these two brand new SWISS 2824 movements, one has a flared balance wheel with incabloc, and the other a straight balance with the novodiac system. And the Asians can copy any of it they want and fool us cause none of us really know the difference now do we?

Incidentally they call the flared balance a 'chronometer grade" balance wheel LOL.
here's to much more confusion and BS'ing 2008...

I have never seen any Swiss rep 6497s with flared spokes on the balance wheel, nor the Incabloc shock protection system on the swan neck.

Spot on, brother
@cybee...mate, let's keep those "other ones" for another discussion. There's enough confusion around 6497 mov'ts already, so lets stick to them this time here

You are kidding, right?
babola said:D4M,
flared spoke balance wheel on gen 6497-2 mov't is a product of Soprod, not ETA. Standard Swiss ETA 6497 mov'ts and ebauches come with straight spoke balance wheel that gets replaced @ Soprod with their own made flared wheel. It's the product of Soprod, and is just one of the numerous modifications they do to a basic ETA 6497-2 mov't before they send it back to Panerai for final installation inside the watch.
Why flared wheel...who knows, Panarai possibly thought the straight one is missing...well, some flare! LOL!
Asians simply copy this flared wheel themselves, as the Asian mov't is built completely from Asian manufactured parts. They DON'T however replace the standard straight spoke wheel on Swiss ETA 6497-1 mov'ts, it's probably due to economic reasons, and the fact it involves much more work on a mov't by mov't basis.
cheers,
babola

cybee said:Babola, Hooligan, and H_U you guys are really the 6497 experts but now that I have D4me's endorsement for President, well you know...these are the types of threads that have made the Dark Side world famous
