I bet you they have no clue what the weight of a GEN is. People just talk out of their ass because they have nothing better to say.

I think a few of them are familiar with the canal street rep or the reputation they have for being made of flimsy material and somehow lighter in weight than a "heavy" gen.

IMHO many people probably haven't heard of 'rare' brands like AP, Hublot, and others. Those might be a safer bet... Until they (coworkers, classmates, w/e) find out what an AP is and it's cost.

I say wear what you want regardless of the cost of the gen.

That being said if you work with people that would judge you by whats on your wrist then wear a gen be it a seiko they will think better of you wearing a $300 seiko then all that hard earned cash you spent getting the crown gaurd and lume looking good lol

nope never on a rep. my gen sub was called out a few times and i owned their butts. "it's fake!!!" no it's real fu&*wit!!! everyone i know knows i have cash (wealth) really the ironic part of all this is wealth has nothing to do with money and everything to do with people and health. my wife has been sick for a few days and now she knows that money is worthless without health. so no, never been caught :)

I have been "caught out" a few times, but funny thing is that I don't own any reps (first rep on the way from Lay). Guess that has to do with my age. My uncle on the other hand who is 63 has been wearing his rep GMT Explorer 2 for years and no one has ever questioned whether it's real or not (even in his absence).

I'm an IT project manager and I'm on a fairly good wage. The guys in my immediate team at work know all about my hobby, and they marvel at the quality & accuracy of my reps.
Outside of those guys, everyone else I've worked with or I've had comment on my watches think they are gens.
The uneducated masses down here in Australia buy really bad fakes from the beach in Bali or Thailand. They really have no idea that reps of such a high standard exist.
Definitely agree that to really pull off a rep, you need to be able to feasibly afford the real thing.

Many have heard or seen ads in magazines but have no idea what those brands cost. I had a Hublot catalog along with the current MSRP list on my desk, and had a few guys see it and stop to take a look one said he seen them on a cruise, and the other seen them in magazines. They both looked at the price list then looked at my wrist and said "wow you really are over paid... NICE!". I told them both that is was a reps, but I dont think either believed me.

Agreed, I have come across a lot of people from Asia, the Middle East, Western Europe - who have usually known about big names such as Patek, Vacheron (Hublot and AP too, but you need to have that 'taste' to like their aesthetics). I started this topic because to be honest I just wanted to know what its like to wear and have one since I'm very very close to ordering my first

I personally have never been caught cause I switch between my Kenneth Cole Reaction GEN ($25) and my Patek Philippe Sky Moon Rep ($1.1 Million). People just know when I get out of my 1991 Jeep Cherokee Sport at Wal-Mart wearing my PP Sky Moon, I came to shop and people just better get out of my way! You guys need to switch between GEN and Reps like me......

My jeep (daily driver) is worth 1/12th what one of my gens is worth. But I didn't buy them (they were heirlooms) and don't wear them (they're too small), so I don't have that issue (though I know it was sarcasm ;) ). Most of the people I know know I have a decent job, so they don't think twice about me wearing a DSSD, Omega, or Breit.

If they knew how much the Pam 309 was worth, then they might call me out. But I'm getting rid of it anyway.

Just don't be a douche about what you're wearing, and you won't have to worry, unless you run across a lot of confrontational jackholes.

Of course I was kidding, I don't have a Sky Moon...and would not get one. I am not going to fool any one with a 1.1 million dollar Rep, that is not functional....I do stick to reps that are around my income range and I could purchase the GEN of.....I have a love for watches and I mean all watches. I am like most people I could purchase the GEN of my reps, but would rather have 50 REPS of various kinds, rather than 2 GENs of the same kind. Stay with in your means and you will never be bothered. I have never been called out ever, but my friends and family all know of my hobby......

Cool thread. I often wondered if people actually got called out for a watch. I bought my first rep last month (Rollie GMTIIc) and have gotten a few looks here and there. It is a beautiful watch but not the quality of the BK Sub I have coming. I wouldn't try to pass it on as a gen at the local AD but will wear it daily. Those who know me know that I collect luxury watches and they would never question the authenticity since I own a business and could afford the gen. Rolex Submariners are the typical watch you see in my area and in my circles. Don't think anyone would question me. I like to keep it somewhat low key so I would never wear any watch that would cost more than the typical price for a used Rolex or Breitling. I think that screams "FAKE" if the person doesn't match the watch. Sad, but true. I personally don't care. I think if you love the watch wear it. Just wear it confidently.

I have never tried to pass off my reps as gens to my friends and family because of the job I do and the wage I earn. They would know!!
I think if I only wore one watch all the time I may possibly get away with it as I have a reputation for buying expensive things now and then but where is the fun of that.
I would rather have 10 reps that I wear in rotation worth about 3-4 years salary than one Gen.
That said only yeterday I got a nice comment about my PAM219L Destro whilst looking in an AD window (didn't stock Pam's) and I didn't rush to tell the guy it was fake. Wouldn't wear it into the AD's though have a Gen Timex for that job!!

I am 23 and work in the beverage industry as a Red Bull sales rep. My manager was with me once and while I was filling out a contract for a buyer noticed my Tag. He complimented me on it and mentioned how he needs to step it up or if I would sell it to him lol. Turns out he is a watch guy, he wears a nice auto Longines regularly.

He hasn't seen my Skyland yet, and I will tell him it's a rep if he sees it one day.
Btw, I think I'm going to order a Sub on a nato strap as a daily. I bump my Skyland on too many things wearing it daily.

It was all fine until I started wearing the fiddy... it caught quite a few looks... and I suspect that some of my colleagues may have started to suspect that some of my watches are reps...
