Hello, everyone. First off, I am not a builder, so all of the work I am going to speak about will be done by my watchmaker. Please forgive my lack of expertise in advance. Right now I am pulling together some parts for a Tudor Snowflake build and I've managed to find a case, dial, and hands. Now these hands are intended for an ETA 2824/2834/2836. This is a high-beat 28,800 vph (4 Hz) movement and while very reliable, is not period correct. I would like to use a low beat movement to keep the watch closer to gen.
I currently have a cheap 60's dive watch that has a recently serviced ETA 2452 in it. According to data I can find on Ranfft this movement is a much more accurate 18k vph and was actually the base that Tudor used for the 2484 in the 7021 Snowflake. I was hoping to use it for my Tudor build. Both the 2824 and 2452 are 11.5''' lignes in size, but 2824 hand sizes are listed as 1.50 x 0.90 x 0.25mm and the 2452's as 1.50 x 0.90 x 0.21mm. Does that difference in hand size end the whole idea of using this older, lower beat movement?
If the ETA 2452 is not a viable candidate, is there another way to use these 2824 hands on a lower beat movement? I've read some references that say it is possible, but I have to admit I am out of my depth. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
