EBay’s in trouble for sure, not policing these listings is wrong. I sold on eBay for years, 24 iirc, I have just ended all my listings, as come feb rules are changing. We won’t get paid until item confirmed as delivered, and buyers will have to pay a fee to purchase, so I think platform will die soon.
If this is true, eBay is a joke. "Buyer will have to pay a fee to purchase"

I've never noticed the 'expert' before, I just asked him a very simple question:

Hi, Please explain how what is quite obviously a counterfeit Rolex is listed for sale on ebay - the model reference number isn't even correct.
Thanks.

I forgot that I did actually get a reply from the 'ebay watch expert ' 2 days after I'd asked the question. It's obviously an independent business contracted by ebay.
He didn't answer my question, as his reply is mostly generic, as I imagine all replies are. He says there's a 10 point check, but what are they checking for ? He doesn't mention authenticity of functionality, just that they 'check'.

"Thank you for contacting eBay Customer Service. My name is Brandon, your eBay Watch Specialist. While reviewing your message, I noticed that you've been with us for over 13 years! I'd like to take a moment to just thank you for the time and loyalty you've dedicated to eBay, it's greatly appreciated!

We see you are inquiring about the item: Rolex Submariner Men's Black Watch - 16610 (126864055856), and you would like to know how this item is listed on eBay, when you have cited that it is potentially counterfeit. I am so glad you have raised this to our attention.

Sellers assume all responsibility for the content of their listings. We do have people and systems looking for suspicious items, and we are appreciative when we get reports for us to look into. Based on the detail you have provided, I am reporting the listing for review as a suspected counterfeit item.

The buyer that has purchased this item is well-protected. Our Authenticity Guarantee program listings will undergo a multi-point inspection to ensure they are authentic and as described by the seller. If there is a discrepancy found during the inspection, we take quick steps to protect you with a refund and return the item to the seller.

During this inspection the authenticator will do the following:

Performs an external 10-point physical inspection of the item covering: crown, bezel, dial, case, clasp/buckle, bracelet/strap, hands, movement, crystal, and end links.
Opens the watch and inspects the internal parts and components.
Check the water resistance of a watch using a dry tester for watches that have a resistance rating using a pressure test.
Performs light cleaning and battery replacement, as needed.

It has been my pleasure resolving and answering your inquiry today. Thank you for taking the time to contact eBay’s Customer Service. Stay safe and have a wonderful rest of the week.

Best Regards,

Brandon"

Well, did you ask Brandon out after this? He deserved at least that much.

I reported every obviously counterfeit item, as far as clothing, watches and fragrances go and nothing has been ever removed.

Ebay is a shithole and they do not care about counterfeit sales. Nor do they care about scammers - my brother got recently scammed for 1500 EUR from a (business entity!) seller. And they sided with the seller. It's downright insane.

But then again, people will get sick of it and they will either have to step up, or sionara to the fees.

I have reported this as well, hoping mass reporting makes a difference, but I will be shocked if it gets removed..

He can do chargeback from his cc.

They rely heavily on their feedback system.. if the seller is a business entity with thousands of feedback and pulled off a scam to a new buyer with 0-10 feedback, they would side with the scammer seller. It goes both ways, an honest seller with 0-10 feedback who just got started selling and scammed by an old buyer with thousands of feedbacks with a return request and sent a rock, they will side with the scammer buyer. And you cant leave a negative feedback to scamming buyers too. It is shithole there.

Absolutely and to some extent I get eBay - he made the purchase from a brand new account, it's just scummy, especially because it's a business. He did manage to get the money back in the end via bank, but it took quite a while and some stress. The part of being unable to leave negative feedback is the most hilarious part, indeed..

Looks like the buyer is not completely satisfied with the watch.

eBay authenticity guarantee is a joke.
Reported similar counterfeit listings and receive the same typical response “We…..didn’t find the listing to be in violation with our policy”

At this point, appears it’s blatant corporate greed and eBay cares more about making their profit from fees than their reputation. That’s nearly a grand in their pocket from fees for each counterfeit Sub/GMT-II sold
