My 177H didn't come from DSN. The glass is marginally recessed i.e. you can feel it with your fingernail. The center of the glass is slightly raised. The bezel on mine appears to be much thinner which, I guess, will set the movement lower. The crown wheel therefore has an equal amount showing either side of the crown guard.

Does that make my D4M version better than a DSN one?

I believe so. This was my first time purchasing from DSN and it will be my LAST.

DAVID told me all his 177H are like this so he cant replace it for me.

my 111H came used... this whole experience was by far the worst one in my rep hobby.

I found this

looking at the gen 176, the crystal looks pretty high up.

I believe that they all (from DSN) do come like that; from what I've seen here. Don't feel too bad, the dial on my 177H was junk and I had to buy a replacement from guess who? DSN. I also had other issues that I had to fix; it's all part of the game.

I seriously doubt that the 111H is used although I have been known to be wrong on more than 1 occasion, I think it's more likely that it just got dinged a few times. These watches come from sweat shops where QC is not exactly high on the agenda.

DSN is basically a good dealer IMO. He has sold a good number of these 177H models primarily because they have been difficult to source elsewhere. I've not seen anyone else complain about the glass/crown location. There are lots of PAM experts here so I'm sure if they feel that it's abnormal they will chime in.

Obviously you are not happy with it so my advice would be to sell it and start again. A watch that you are not happy with will never get any better IMO.

Sorry for your disappointment.

I have a DSN 177H as well. The glass seems to be the same thickness as yours (you can see the edge of the glass in the photo) and the crown does indeed fit higher in the crown guard than some of my other Pams. The DSN is still an excellent version of the 177. In a week, or maybe two, you likely won't notice these things any more.

stop your whining. your rep 177 is exact like the gen 177.

you can get a gen 177 for ( not sure how much at the moment - about 6000 US $ USED ? )

here a pic OF THE GEN 177.... DVSN did not lie to you

OK I am convinced. my 177 is good. DSN took care of it by giving me a discount on my next purchase for the dinged up 111h.

Thanks for pointing out 177h tho.

the $6,000 gen is definitely the route to go. perfection is difficult to find or achieve in $2-$300 timepieces.

6000 $ for a gen is nothing but a joke.....you pay $ 5000 for the name, the rest is taxes and material.

hey, if you make enough money...no problem.

i have some high quality Panerai reps since years.....and they are absolutely great.

for 6000$..... id put 4 k on top and buy a mint GLASHUETTE - Lange or a gen IWC large pilots watch for 7000 $.

but not a Panerai with an ETA 6497.......

H, I could not agree with you more (or I would not have joined RWI and started collecting). I'm not a Pam expert but am getting hooked on them after I got my first from Mark at timesshop last week. This watch seems close to perfection and I wear it most of the time. Very comfortable and to me they seem like the Pam designers new exactly what to design for us to best keep track of time. :)

Atta Boy Dell! I think I am sick with this PAM bug too. But I agree with you and "Rosie Palmer" HU in that I will never plunk down 6000 for a 6497.

For the price of two famous davidsen's you could have a real watch with this 6498 in it, Stowa MO. Now that is value.

A name with quality and a good pedigree. :D
