Aqua, I think Savage's post was about the need to stop making excuses for not being 1:1. The conventional logic is that they try, but just can't do it. I believe what Savage was trying to point out is that they COULD do it, they just don't try.

Well yeah I'm sure they could- I do think they try- of course- they keep getting closer and closer- But the "ultimate" 111H with a good lume job is what- 99.5% of a gen?? Isn't it?? Even Panerai's vary from year to year- the shape of the numerals and the shape of the case varies over the years- and they're trying to make the same thing.

I just don't see why you need em any closer to the gen unless you want to "totally own the guy at the jewelry store".

And unless someone drastically improves the quality of the movement decoration or the depth of laser engraving- they're never goig to "fool" someone well versed with gens.

And I have NO problem with someone wanting a PERFECT verson of the gen- Gens are drastically overpriced- I know that and I own three- it's the Emperor's new clothes- I get it. But I just want ONE guy here to say- "Yeah- I want them closer so I can fool my friends and my boss so they think I'm richer than I am". Cause that's the only reason- other than passing off forgeries as gens- to want it better.

Believe me- I have a TW Best Sub that i wear every now and then. I have tried MIGHTILLY to explain to Rolex owning friends that it's a replica- they don't buy it- The watch looks and feels too good- and most of the Rolex guys think the TW is crap-

I'm not really going to delve into the reasoning that people might want 1:1. That's a personal thing and probably differs from one to the next. It's really irrelevant to what I was trying to convey.

The general consensus has been, and apparently continues to be, that it's impossible to get a 1:1 copy. My point is that that's crap. I mean these are already replicas and, in many cases illegal to sell and, in some cases illegal to own. I'm not sure what the point is with not going the full monty and getting them 1:1. None of the makers have come out and said, "we're not making them 1:1 because people would try to pass them off as gens." Instead they say, "we're trying our best to make them 1:1." Or, they flat out say that they are 1:1 when they aren't. My only point was that the ability to make them 1:1 is out there and the tools to make it happen are probably already in the factories. It doesn't seem that hard to me, but I'm not an engineer. Maybe somebody with some experience in this sort of thing can chime in and give us some good reasons why it can't be done.

As has been said, the movement will give them away anyway, so passing off as gen for sales purposes is a moot point.

I'm not going to sit here and judge somebody if they want to pass one off as a gen. That's not my place. Nuff said.

I am very satisfied with my DSN 112. The movement is rock solid.

Who is right? The guy that has the ultimate fiddy, and shows the inaccuracy of it. OR, the guy that does not own a DSN, but has heard that the 127 is the most accurate? Kinda conflicting, don't ya think?

Judge for yourself.

Feel free to dig up my old post about the ultimate fiddy. It's not all in one thread though.

Just making a joke, evil. Of course, you are right. Someone who does not own a DSN should not post his opinions of them when people ask for advise. The forum is here for those with first-hand experience to give advise. It really peeves me, when I see a guy offering advise based on assumptions. Cudos to you for sharing.

As hooligan mentioned, I didn't say DSN Fiddy is the most accurate Fiddy out there, but for a Davidsen, it's one of his accurate models. I don't own the watch, but have seen probably 30 different pictures of his various versions of Fiddy. I am not speaking out of "assumptions", I am speaking out of my observation of the pictures and owners' comments & reviews.

Aquaracer, you have been an die hard supporter of DSN since day one. Good for you, its nice to be passionate about people and things. But then you Howl about how gen like your DSN 112 is and "he does it again" yet you try and take to task anybody who has any issues about the flaws on his watches and the continuing lack of Quality Control. Obviously "you don't get it". And you can't have it both ways. I want my rep Pams to be as close to 1:1 as humanly possible. I want my Pam reps to be so good, that if a rabid Paneristi takes it off my wrist he won't be able to tell the difference. Maybe there is a bit of hyperbole there. But thats what a lot of people on these forums are looking for. as close to 1:1 as they can get. And it is none of your business why I want them to be that good. Why the hell are you wearing your 112 so much, maybe because its the best rep you've got and you want to be able to fool people. ... or maybe... its the pride factor... this is one hell of a good quality watch and I got for less then $400.00.... And that is exactly what drives me.... the pride factor... I want one hell of a watch and I want it to be as good as it can be. Thats why to me DSN watches are NO BETTER and NO Worse then any other dealers reps... its just that for me , his flaws are generally just not that acceptable for the money he charges, compared to other dealers. I just bought a Pam 172 Tanatalum from DSN and the watch is really stunning, except the dial numbers are too bold and fat. But I can live with that. But the C1 lume is a total joke and I am paying for that. The C1 is on the dial because of color not because this is a tritium dial, and the last series of this watch was produced in 2005. So as a Luminova dial its not that old, so it should have a strong and constant glow. But this dial has less then rep factory standard glow and is a total rip and the hands are still done in C3 and are the only thing on the dial that does glow even though they don't match. So out it goes to Vac for a proper luming, standard procedure for DSN lumed dials. So I took a chance on this DSN 172 that the lume would be satisfactory enough that I wouldn't have to pay for another re-lume, and I lost the bet. Two steps forward one step back. Maybe you could have accepted that as "its all good", but I can't. And if you haven't noticed thats what drives many of the long term members of these forums, getting their reps as close to gen as possible. One mans acceptable flaws are another mans unacceptable irritant.

Rogerwine-Great post. We share the same sentiments. My goal is to get a watch with the exact specifications of a gen at a fraction of the price. It's an endless pursuit of modding, and questions asking.
I was in love with my DSN 111 when it arrived. But as time wore on I noticed that the dial was riddled with mistakes. I have since sold the watch, and was waiting for DSN to come through with a more accurate dial.
The 10D seemed to be it, but for now the case will be inaccurate as he will be using a 201a case.
One thing I learned about reps is that patience pays off, and I will wait till DSN has it correct. In all honesty I wish he would make an accurate close back PAM with no AR. This will easily fool a Risti. He has the crystal with no AR, but dials are not done, and no caseback.

I agree with Rogerwine.

I buy reps because I want a range of watches, and in my case, while I could probably afford them in gens, I choose not to (have a couple, and a new one on the way). Another problem with gens is when you want a particular one, they are not necessarily available (I wanted a 188).

You can buy fakes (as opposed to reps) for under $50-100 in the back streets of China, so why would you pay $200-800 here? Because of alleged accuracy and quality. We do pay a reasonable premium, so expect things to be right - maybe not all, but anything that it bleeding obvious! Things like Cannon pins, Crown Guards, CG ping too short and round, over AR'd, under lume, etc., all should be right for the money. Also, when the thing is supposed to be swiss, or 'Unitas' it should be real!

In my case, I got a 177H from DSN, and while pretty happy with it, the CG pin was short and round (why, oh why can't they get that right?) and the bottom of the dial says L SWISS MADE L, not L SWISS L - which is just plain lazy! Everything else looked fine to my eyes, and the lume is great (same as my gen 25)

Will I buy from him again? Probably. Would I like it to get better? Absolutely.

For a 177h, "L Swiss Made L" is correct, "L Swiss L" would be incorrect. So, the good news is that you can scratch one of the "flaws" of your list.
