aquaracer, I would love to see your pam conparison pics. I'm on the fence about another davidsen pam but good comparison pics would probably push me in the purchasing direction.

I've still got my very first Pam, a 111h I bought from river. It's got great AR, good dial relumed and cannon pin fixed by Ziggy, and a Palp crown. The only thing that really kills me is the needle swan neck!

Maybe Ferrariman can chime in on this topic. He has a gen 111(H I believe) - that is absolutely stunning in real life.

Roger-

Wow god story-

My experience is different.

I purchased my first Davidsen 111H when I owned a gen 111H- Obviously the dial font was really far off- But the dial texture and depth was very close to the gen- My Eddie Lee 111H had a shinier and thicker dial. Now I have a 111G Painted dial (gen) and 210H Gen- and the new Davidsen dial really looks OK. Having a couple of gens and some reps side by side on a daily basis is informative- I tend to treat the DS watches like gens- I put my better straps on them, and I'm not afraid to wear them in the company of knowledgeable people. Even my wife, when she finds one of the DS watches in the kitchen always says "You better put the "good stuff" away before it gets scratched"!! (assuming it's one of the gens)

I know youre pissed at Davidsen and that's Ok- but I do find his watches seem to wind more smoothly than the other reps I have- And for ME at least it's worth the couple of extra bucks.

Let me get my act together and I'll photograph the gens versus the reps versus teh Davidsens to show you what I mean.

Hey Aqua,

Do you have a problem with thicker straps on your Davidsen watches?? Also, what do you think of his lume? I think Davidsen is a true pioneer in his field and some of his parts are really incredible. But the shorter lugs drove me crazy and the threading for his screws can be an issue.

Also, I find the Davidsen lume to fit in somewhere btwn the GEN lume and standard REP lume. It just doesn't seem to glow with the same strength as the GEN.

But since you have the GEN equivalents, I'm sure you can directly see the good and bad points on the watches in question here. And please keep in mind that these are nitpicks.

I don't expect perfect dial font, but if I can't wear my nicer thicker straps, then I'm just having less fun :D

I have a few reps and my impression of DSN's 111H is that the lume is outstanding. My Ruby Marina 6132-1 has decent lume, and the one rep I have from Josh is crap. And when comparing a gen to DSN the dial texture seems very convincing, as well as the overall feel of the watch. I think DSN's 111H is over priced, but I am still happy with my purcahse.

On the DSN's I have had zero problems with thicker straps- It's true that the lug holes on his cases are a touch closer to the case than on the gens or other reps- But all of my straps fit fine.

The DSN "Vintage Lume" isn't really that bright- and really looks like regular rep lume- though uncharged the color is great.

His superlume as on the Fiddy and 111H is excellent.

Uncharged it is pale white, not pale green like many of the relume phtoos I've seen. Charged it's brilliant- flashlight bright. I find the DSN watches are just about 100% to the gen- certainly the sandwhich dials- The Painted dials seem just the tiniest bit brighter- but who really cares. But uncharged it looks spot on. I'm not sure why his sausage dials look so green in his photos- I have an 005 on the way so we'll see how it looks in person.

The only time Lume is usable is when you're actually diving- which you would not do with a rep- or going into a dark movie theater in the middle of the day. I've NEVER noticed my gens glowing unless I charge them with my desk lamp on purpose.

skcheng - I transferred one of Elliots nice thick straps that had been worn on a Josh 111H for a while onto my Davidsen 195 (same case as 111H). Even though Davidsens lug may be a little shorter in length I had absolutely no problem with the strap clearing the case. I think this is due in large part to the fact that Davidsen uses strap screws with out tubes. This makes Davidsens screws a little smaller in overall diameter than a PAM with screws and tubes like Gen. Most thick straps that I have purchased (Smat, BOB, HKTAN1, Elliots etc) seem to have been made for the thicker screw with tube. This translates into these thicker straps fitting a little looser on Davidsens strap screws with out tubes and they pull back a little further - thus clearing the case.

I shouldn't be so harsh. I know DSN is a pioneer. He has really added a lot of excitement to the board. But for me and and many others there has been a lot of disappointment over dashed expectations.

My Micah, Greg, and Savage straps just don't clear the case at all. But then again, I'm using regular tubes/screws. I never tried just using the screws??

I shouldn't be so harsh. DSN is areal pioneer and he has added a lot of excitement to the board. I know I was crowing very loudly when the 1st 082 came out. But now there is a lot of frustration over dashed expectations.

My Micah, Greg, and Savage straps just don't fit at all. But then again, I'm using the tubes and screws. These straps all fit fine on the GEN 212. No big deal since I have plenty of thinner straps that fit with a little bit of clearance.

So I have the new 005 and 111H both purchased on the same day.
Yes, Davidsen does make some nice overall products, especially the vintage models.
Good AR, nice crown, nice crown guards, etc.
The place where he looses points with me:
005
He advertises C3 lume on the 005, perhaps the hands - but the dial is green, probably C7.
Lug screws come stripped, lug holes are too large and oval shaped.
This rep will never again hold lug screws unless you glue them in place.
Springbars he ships with the watch to fix this issue are too narrow diameter.
They fall right through the lug holes, strap comes off and watch falls to ground.
(Thank goodness Rivers springbars work perfectly for this problem)
The case between the lugs he grinds ground down flat apparently to help accomidate thicker straps!
111H
The sandwich dial is practically non existent.
It takes magnification to see any depth, looks like my 111G.
I believe this is due to the lume being too thick on the bottom plate below the dial.
Lugs screws come stripped, same issue as above.

Both of these need mods right off the start to make them wearable to me.
Yes call me persnickety if like, but a higher price should mean higher quality.

Great discussion!
I'm a relative novice with 6 or seven watches from different dealers. I've recently got a 183 from Dsn, I am really impressed with the quality- the wire lugs are rock solid and fit perfectly. The movement feels great and most importantly, the screw down crown works smoothly and solidly. I couldn't speak regarding accuracy of the dial etc but the entire package feels great. It cost $10 more than the same watch from another one of the top dealers but it's got superlume, proper cannon pins, waterproofing and it was sent with an excellent thick leather strap.
DSN for me!!
What do you guys consider to be his best watch?

JJflash - I agree 100% with everything you wrote there. I would like to add though, that of the 6 PAMS I purchased from Davidsen only 2 came with the stripped lugs & screws (I should not have recieved even 1 in IMO). I looked very closely with a 10x loop and saw that the reason they were stripped was becuase no one had threaded the holes and who ever assembled the watch tried to force the screw into the hole, thus stripping the screw and deforming the hole. I contacted Davidsen about the case, sent the watch back and recieved a new one. I am not sure why Davidsen still sends those worthless springbars and has not spoke to some one about his lug hole problems. I have 2 111H's on the way and I am curious to see what I will get with regards to the cases.

Like previously mentioned in this post, look at his vintage models, especially his ultimate 50...

Jake48 - let us know how your sandwich dial looks when you get these.
