A watch with anything more than a dial, hour/minute/second hands is
not a
dress watch. A dress watch is typically worn at a special dress event. Elegant understatement is the key. If your watch tells anything more than the time, you are telling your host/hostess that the moon phase/day/date/tides/rotating bezel/alarms/gold chunks, whatever, are more important than your hosts' event. One is not to wear a 'look at me watch' to a dress event. It is ill mannered, impolite, and simply not done by gentlemen.
