Don't use Loctite on Radiomir Screws

No more rep radiomirs for me!
The tiny little screws are still made like crap just like they were years ago.
Thought the latest and greatest 380 might be different than Rad reps from years ago.
And in terms of accuracy it is, one of the finest reps ever made and definitely should be listed as a superrep in the RWI pam guide.

Howver the quality of the little back screws suck!
Many owners have used loctite including the one I bought second hand so the little tiny screws don't fall out.
But the extra pressure then required to remove the screws is much more likely to cause your screw head to strip when unscrewing.
I got one out with no damage.
2 out with marked heads
1 appears to now be permantently stuck!
Hell even without Loctite these heads can strip very easily since they are made very poorly in terms of quality, are tiny and screw way into the surrounding case.

The main benefit with the Panerai brand is the ability to completely change the look of your watch with endless options via easy strap changes.
On the luminors this is very true, buy yourself a good quality proper size screwdriver and you can change your strap 100's of times without fear.
Putting a $200 strap on a $250 super rep makes it feel like much more than a $450 watch IMO
However with the Radiomir I see no way to do frequent strap changes comfortably.

The Panatime leg set and screws is much better quality.
I would trust them not to fall out and not to strip on the heads but although I own a set can't use it becuase I have a rep screw stuck!:frusty:

The newest reps should be the same quality as Panatime's but they are not
So my advise to me is just to stick with Luminors but if you are going to go the Rad route and plan on changing your strap Don't Loctite those little screws in.

+1 and even without locktite, it's a major pain removing the screws. I feel you man.

From some time I have doubts about the quality of the steel. I'm not sure that farms use steel 316x. I've heard that in some cases have been found traces of oxidation. Especially in watches waterproofed and frequently used in the pool or in the sea. And in many other cases there was a rupture of the lugs or of the other protruding parts...

I love rads but this is the reason I don't yet own a rep.

I wonder if the gens have the same issues, I.e screws being too small and causing issues re depth etc. Obv steel will better...

I honestly think that is not a Loctite problem
The Loctite thread-locker medium force must not have problem to be disassembled.

First problem: You should have applied the Loctite just in the thread not in the head. With Loctite applied in the head and contour will be very difficult the disassembling without damage the screw head.

Another problem is the quality of the screws and the Screwdriver used !!

And, of course, the Radiomir changing system which is not at all useful !!

Using the correct Loctite medium applied ONLY IN THE THREAD (NO IN THE HEAD) and using an appropriate screwdriver you should not have problems !!

Please some expert Radiomir member indicate the correct size of the screwdriver for the Radiomir back screws

Ale has a great point about too much loctite.

Hold the screw with tweezers and put a drop of the purple on the threads then, and this is important, dab the screw threads on some tissue to absorb the excess.

1.4 is the correct blade size
I have the proper size and good quality tool
The issue 80% the quality of the rep screws and 20% a poorly designed system the gen uses
I didn't loctite it a previous owner did and I am sure only applied it to the screw threads and uses the removable strength stuff

Problem is removing the screws without loctite holding then is risky
Removing the if the are loctited becomes a problem destined to happen
A little bit of extra hold increases the likelihood the blade will not budge the screw and will mark/strip the butter soft "steel" screw head
I now have 1 too stripped to be removed

As above if you pick one strap and forget than by all means loctite them in
My point is that it kind of defeats the appeal of panerai's to me which is mixing up my straps frequently

Or replace the screws with aftermarket first as I mentioned the quality of panatimes are far superior and cheap
It is a shame the factories are updating to costly superlume and ar coating but still using $.10 screws

I should add the gen radiomirs do not come with a screwdriver
All other Pam's do
So the radiomir system even on gens is a bad design

Thx for this info! Gonna get a 380 and found some replacement bars/screws on eBay. May get Panatime as well. The ones on eBay I've seen are for 292. Cheers.

This is not an issue with a bit of thought:

1) Buy replacement screws from Panatime
2) Select correct size screwdriver
3) Apply Loctite 222 CORRECTLY
4) Screw in and enjoy a securely held strap
5) Change strap at will using correct size screwdriver and correctly reapplying the correct Loctite.

Done.

My 292M has a new strap every couple of weeks when I feel like a change and with the Panatime screws, not even the PVD coating has been damaged.

I've got about 6 radiomirs and it has been a problem with 1 or 2 of them

But I don't straps that often - I just change watches!

I have had 2, both needed loctite. Panatime and Trevor to the rescue. ;)

I just got a rad set from panatime.com and it came to me in three days of ordering. One of the lug bars came with indention on both sides of the bar (where the screw goes in to hold). This caused the pin to break off into the hole. I got it out with some tweezers. I notified panatime and they are sending out a new set. All I asked is that they send me one lug pin and they are sending a whole set. Great customer service. I know this isn't a dealer feedback section, but just wanted to throw that in there.
Anyhow, I plan to use loctite on this new set. Hope it works. This is the only issue I have with the rads.

I have an older model GEN quartz JLC, took it to a swatch shop one time and told them to change the battery. They ****** the screws up big time. I saw it as beeing my fault, took it to the JLC store with in-house atelier which WAS AT THE END OF THE SAME STREET for ***** sake and all they could do was drill out the screws, tap new thread etc. I didn't bother lesson learned. Small screws are a pain in the ass, gen or rep.

pardon me, but how is the correct application of loctite , as indicated in number3? I also plan on using purple 222 loctite on my rep 288 and my dievas radiomir, just wanted to be sure how to apply them properly.

1) Buy replacement screws from Panatime
