Different VIP ratings suggestion

I like the concept. however, I think the system works pretty well. If you see a newer member who has been here a month and has 50 posts and no feedbacks. The weight behind that isn't the same as a member who has 4000 posts and high feedback regardless of their VIP status. The wings, rep points, feedback and post count do tell a lot. Now its not a perfect system but its not too hard to sort out who is contributing and who isn't.

Just witnessed another sales post where a VIP with 21 posts and 5 sales rating disappear after double selling on his single sale.

Leaving even steelfish in aghast

Most issues seem to be involving sales. Minimum post count of 500 and 6 months membership would curtail that. :)

Also, I think RWG.cc has multiple levels of VIP. I'm not sure how that works out for them. There doesn't seem to be a lot of folks over there, though.

Good on the change of title.

I've probably only written about 15 posts in total. As a new collector, i look towards those with more knowledge than me to advise and guide me in the right direction. But what i've found on numerous occasions is derision and condescension.

Hopefully it will knock some people's attitudes down a peg or two and allow newbies the courage to ask questions.....assuming they've done a quick search for the most common questions :greedy:

I thought I saw a message earlier regarding the VIP title was changed to supporter, for the life of me I cannot find it again nor do i remember what it states thats the only thing i could remember. If anyone has read it i would appreciate a summary of the message.

It's been a service announcement by the big man thats big up a few times today. It states the the name "VIP MEMBER" will change to "VIP SUPPORTER" due the some VIP'S thinking that since they payed a donation to RWI that it gives them a right to act like a douche canoe. I think it stated that the admin's would change them over, and them add VIP's and deem fit? There's more in there but that's the general gist that I got from the service announcement.

A change of name for the VIP user group

Greetings members, due to the current spate of new VIP members who think that being a VIP member gives them the right to
act like either children or arrogant asses we are changing the name of the VIP user group to "SUPPORTER". All else will remain
the same as only the name is changing. Hopefully this will deter a bit of the self importance that has recently been displayed by
what are now ex VIP members. The VIP monicker will be retained and from now on this group will be reserved for those particularly
worthy of the title, those who have given back to RWI in more ways than just money. Members will be added to this group as a
staffer sees fit. There are a lot of folk deserving of the title and it will take a while for all those to added so don't feel left out if you aren't
immediately included, it may yet happen. The change will take place in the next few hours and possibily be done when you read this.

Regards, Trailboss99

Keep it simple and open-minded, this is a hobby and it´s supposed to be fun. For somebody just joining, it already is like running against a wall of information. Imo the forum regulates itself, in times where everything is just the click-of-a-button away, there will always be ppl who read the instructions manual and others who don´t. Members need as much patience to guide newcomers as those need it to adapt to the rules. And some black sheep find their ways, also on ebay and everywhere else, no matter how many rules there are.

Very well said, I see what the Boss has done and I support it, but I still want to throw in my two cents. I don't think charging more $ for status is the way to go in fact I think its a very bad idea. Just like the guy who buys a genuine 16610 and thinks he is King Shit, Isn't that what we all oppose to begin with. I think the demonstrated quality of the member over time should determine status as I believe it already does, within the forum there are many ways to see who is working hard for the betterment of the hobby.

Keeping the VIP status and name for contributing members, while simply calling a newcomer that just upgraded "supporter" is a simple and genius solution imho. An improvement and enough differentiation, while keeping it simple for all. Great idea:)

+1 Thrasher.

This is a difficult thing to navigate, as the forum seems to have a good system in place, but yet people are being dumbasses. Although there are stupid people everywhere, no matter how many rules, tiers, etc. I don't think that having a tiered money system is a good answer, like Thrasher said.

I cant remember who or where I saw it but someone mentioned like a "kiddie pool" for newcomers, basically I would equate this to a "probation" period at a job, you dont get benefits and such for 90 days. Stick the newbies in there own corner somewhere and let the ones who can play by the rules into the big leagues, like the farm system! Read the rules, interact nicely, etc. I dont know how long that period would last, or if its even feasible as it would have to be pretty moderated, but it could help overall.

Some newbies here, like myself, aren't newbies to watch forums in general. I myself just recently got into reps, and just discovered rep forums, so it really is hard to say.

People are going to be terrible anywhere there are people, its just the nature of mankind, but I do feel the brass around here as done a pretty good job at all of it, but it would be nice to have it a little easier for them.

Well said JB (and thrasher, daywatch).

RWI has been most liberal forum out of all the rep fora. Admin worked hard to make this as pleasent place to hang around as possible and yet trusted judgement of each members to behave and respect one another.
Monetary tier system is not a good idea. I admit. I'd proposed it because i felt there was a need for a slightest reform but i lack imagination or creativity. ;-p

Brilliant TB and admin in general yet again came up with best solution. I support fully to the new rating systme that is reliant on each member's contribution. This won't restrict anything to good supportive members and still act as some sort of check on ego of some who don't know their place. It also rewards contributing members with true VIP status.
