The Presidential Address to Congress of December 8, 1941 (known as the Infamy Speech or Day of Infamy Speech[4][5]) was delivered at 12:30 p.m. that day to a Joint Session of Congress by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt, one day after the Empire of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii. The name derives from the first line of the speech: Roosevelt describing the previous day as "a date which will live in infamy."

Having been so incredibly touched and hurt by 911, I have a new respect for Pearl Harbor. America dropped everything and gave 120% to the war effort. That effort eventually spawned the most amazing growth in America since the inception of the industrial revolution.

My granny, (95yrs old), used to talk about PH and 911's similarities in how they affected her heart. Having lived through both is truly amazing. The stuff she as experianced in America in her life.

My grand daddy was not able to fight in WWII but he did work for General Dynamics division Convair in FtWorth, Texas. That facility is ajacent to Carswell Airforce Base (Carswell Field then) and called Air Force Plant 4 to this day.

He started there in January 1942 and ran a "Rosie The Riveter" crew, building wiring harnesses for the B-24. They built the B24's by the thousands. Eventually built B36's, F104s, F111's, F16s, F22's and F35's today. GrandPa worked for General Dynamics 39 years.

If you know or run into a veteran today....extend your hand and tell them thank you for their service. Thats the least I can dois say thank you Sir\Ma'am.

A bit pathetic but it is good to see that you still keep the memories alive and are somehow grateful for the deeds and sufferings of your ancestors. They did what had to be done. As everyone did, from his (or his countrys) point of view, at that time.

My grandfather served in the SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 19 / 9. SS-Panzer-Division Hohenstaufen from 43 until the end, he got severely wounded during operation "herbstnebel" (among the americans better known as "the battle of the bulge") in the bastogne area in early january 45, but i doubt that anybody ever said something like "thank you" to him...

Normally people don't give thanks for things like this...

Well, yes, that is correct, but thats two different stories that cant be mixed together, although they happened at the same time. The one story is war, the other is killing innocent civilians. These crimes were committed by a minority, especially police units and the special formation of SS Totenkopf Wachverbände. These guys, criminal cowards, did never see an organized and well armed enemy. They were no "soldiers" in common sense.

A soldier is someone who is willing to give his life to save his country. No matter on which side.
That still has to be honored.

I mean its not up to a single soldier to decide or determine wether he is with the good or with the bad guys. He just follows his orders. The rest is politics....

Awkward silence....

Hey, i dindnt want to mess up your patriotic mood!

To point that out: i stand with the us, also with israel, because they are the only nations that have the balls to defend OUR ALL western way of life with all neccesary means against todays most dangerous threat! (For example 9/11 and all the other countless attacks)
