The Presidential Address to Congress of December 8, 1941 (known as the Infamy Speech or Day of Infamy Speech[4][5]) was delivered at 12:30 p.m. that day to a Joint Session of Congress by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt, one day after the Empire of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii. The name derives from the first line of the speech: Roosevelt describing the previous day as "a date which will live in infamy."
Having been so incredibly touched and hurt by 911, I have a new respect for Pearl Harbor. America dropped everything and gave 120% to the war effort. That effort eventually spawned the most amazing growth in America since the inception of the industrial revolution.
My granny, (95yrs old), used to talk about PH and 911's similarities in how they affected her heart. Having lived through both is truly amazing. The stuff she as experianced in America in her life.
My grand daddy was not able to fight in WWII but he did work for General Dynamics division Convair in FtWorth, Texas. That facility is ajacent to Carswell Airforce Base (Carswell Field then) and called Air Force Plant 4 to this day.
He started there in January 1942 and ran a "Rosie The Riveter" crew, building wiring harnesses for the B-24. They built the B24's by the thousands. Eventually built B36's, F104s, F111's, F16s, F22's and F35's today. GrandPa worked for General Dynamics 39 years.
If you know or run into a veteran today....extend your hand and tell them thank you for their service. Thats the least I can dois say thank you Sir\Ma'am.
