sadly that search still just gives me the same two odd photoshopped/computer generated looking pictures, the one above and one from a slight angle. those pictures look so odd i can't tell how much of them are real and how much isn't. the case looks real but the dial looks computer generated. i am probably not explaining what i mean very well but i am sure you can understand what i mean when you look at the pictures. i still haven't found a picture of this watch that looks real.

Hi HK,

I Emailed DSN about a few watches last week and this was one of them. I'm going to pull the trigger and I'm sure he can make you the one you are looking for too. I found a few gen-pictures in a search last week. Let me see if I can find them - if i do i will certainly forward to you!

Good luck!

Matt

I don't get it - is this a new rep or has it been around for some time? When DSN put this in his section I almost peed in my pants - a new rep of a piece I had never seen before! A rep that would be available for just a few of us selected lucky ones. Yummy! Until I browsed our new dealer Timeshopsnets site and found this watch. At 138 bucks. Will everybody have this rep in their watch box from now on? http://www.timeshops.net/47mm_Rolex_Vin ... 1-1779.htm

At $138 it would be a fun project to "vintagize".

Edit: Re straps - I think the lugs are fixed on DSNs too.

he came out with this watch some time ago and i have been interested in it since but for one reason or another i have kept putting it off. i talk to him last night and he can still make it and i think i am going to order it this week end. i haven't bought a rep since last october because i think they are too expensive for watches with asain chronos. i like some of them but the prices have just got stupid so i stopped buying reps and spent my money on a new rolex for my wife and i. i have kept looking at this and i don't think i can resist any longer. if you are a rolex fan and like panerai it don't get any better than this watch right here. there are so few of these in the wild that running into somebody that knows about them is going to be next to impossible. after i get it i am going to take a look at the color of the lume and see if it needs to be adjusted and have gunny or hk tan make a smokin vintage strap. i think i am going to ask davidsen to sell me an extra crystal and send with it. it sticks up fairly high and it is plexiglass, i am going to wear the crap out of it so if i break it i want a replacement handy!!!! :D

what do you guys think? i think i am going to buy it!!!!!! [smilie=alien.gif] [smilie=alien.gif] [smilie=alien.gif] [smilie=alien.gif]

i saw the watch from a former member....and i loved it.

but...i would have replaced the high plexi with a flat sapphire crystal. ( i know....not right....but i like it better )

its a pretty huge watch.....and hardly anybody has seen a gen. the one i saw came with a russian Moljina.

in the end i bought another version.....instead of this Rolex Vintage. looky here

i have a 8-8 1/2" wrist so i am pretty sure i can get away with this watch. it looks pretty close to the gen also.

i think something from hktan in this water stained weathered leather would look great on it.

There are two different case styles for this watch, a Luminor-type case and a Radiomir-type case. The Radiomir case does not have fixed lugs (well it sort of does), but a springbar system between the wire lugs. Strange I know!

Anyway, I "vintagized" one and you can see the results here:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=39735&p=344911&hilit=savage+vintage#p344911

I may have to try that other case design though since it's more true to the very rare gen!

Cheers,

obviously a man wouldn't try to sell it as a 90,000.00 gen but i think it would work on the wrist and generally just be pretty cool to have. i was looking around davidsen's photobucket and saw this. how close is this watch? i like this one to.

That's another that is really good, HK. Slightly less rare than the Rolex 6154 style watch, but still quite accurate. A gen vintage Rad like that would have fixed lugs, forcing the strap to be sewn on, riveted or a NATO type strap.

You couldn't go wrong with either of the two watches you're considering, IMO.

If you prefer this 2533 style dial, you could have DSN put it in the 6154 case. That's the beauty of these vintage military watches, IMO. They were very "parts bin" type watches and you could have any combination of cases and dials from the same era be a plausible option.

is the second watch 47mm also? i was thinking if i liked the rolex version i might try this one also. if i get a strap i like allot i wouldn't mind having one sewed on it. i like the idea of changing straps and i probable have 25 of them but with three pams i only use 4 or 5 of my straps. when i find a combo i like i tend to stay with it. i really like the dial on that watch, it is different and cool looking all at the same time. :D

that looks cool, did you have to sew the strap on it or are those wire lugs removable?

davidsen just emailed me and said he would build me the 6154 and send pictures later this weeks, how cool is that? i will post the picture when he sends!!!!!

Yep, that one should be 47mm, too.

No, the wire lugs are fixed, but they're "blank" in the middle. So, a springbar connects the two sides. So, you can use regular straps. They're a little bit of a challenge to get on, but not that bad. However, unless you bend the springbar, you won't get that gentle curve over time that you normally see in the lug end of straps that are mounted on Rads. They'll just continue to be straight across.

Wow! Really nice work - too bad the watch is dead! (Still?) Something like that would certainly be a good project for me. Apart from DSN I've, however, only seen this rep with the (incorrect?) wire lugs. Anyways, given that the gen is so rare it may still be an ok project.

Huh? Sounds a bit fragile?

AHHHHH!!!! after reading this thread, I'm now seriously considering picking up a nice new "vintage" pam... my last (the rollie dial) suffered from a screw down crown and a 6497-2 movement... as you can imagine the stem broke after a while. :?

Fixed lug, or springbar... just make certain its not a screwdown crown.

it has a rolex screw down crown and a Molnija 3602 movt. as far as i know it has no problems with it or the movement. if it does davidsen has plenty of parts to fix it with. he is putting one together for me as we speak and is going to send pictures of it when it is finished. i will post the pictures he sends me when i receive them. i already told him i wanted an extra plexi crystal because i am going to wear the crap out if it and i figure i will hit it on something before it is over and break it. lol
