Date wont change over on my sub.

Hi there guys and girls,

This is my first post so please be kind. I have bought a watch from Lay and he has been a great guy to deal with. New ceramic sub, no problems at all all the way through. Anyway, I got the watch at the end of Jan and it is brilliant. Keeps perfect time and I am pleased with every aspect of it. However....
The date has now stopped changing over at midnight. It is an asian 2836-2 movement that as I said keeps perfect time. If I wind the date over manually with the crown it will change no problem but then will not change at midnight. It also does not change if I advance it forwards over a 24 hour period. That said, today I wound it back 24 hours and the date apeared to engage and turned back half way, then when I would it forward it changed over but not at midnight but between 1am and about 8 am. Lay has been great communicating and said if i return it he will sort it out no problem but I really like the watch and dont want to risk it getting lost on its journey back to china and then back here. Is there anyone in the UK who can look at this for me? Would I be foolish to ring around some local watchsmiths?

So my question is: Should I send it back, try to get it repaired or just live with it and change the date manually?

Your advice is greatly apreciated.

Ok so an update.

After the last time I posted I hoped that it had fixed itself, but alas like all these things that was not the case.

So I decided to do some research into the 2836-2 movement and see if I could gleam any information from that about what was wrong with my watch. So after a while I learnt that the quick date setting mechanism is on the right hand side of the watch closest to the crown and the automatic date mechanism is on the other side. The auto part has teeth and I saw a picture on line that showed these teeth jammed and that was the cause of that particular problem. I think that although mine is not jammed and I have not wound it in any way that has felt like I have damaged it I have used the quick date set when the auto mechanism was engaged, ie. when the hands are between 10 and 2. So I think that what happened was that the auto mechanism got thrown out of kilter and the teeth were not engaging as they should on the date wheel.

Ok so how did I fix it. I wound the hands to 6 and then set the date with the quick set function, however I wound it until the date was only half turned over. I then would the hands round to 12 and when I pushed the crown back in there was a quiet click, the date changed over and that was that. The date now changes over between 12 and 2 (I think there must be something wrong with the spring that clicks the date over but at least it changes over) it keeps great time as it did before and I wont every change the date when it is between 10 and 2 again. Remember that the date did not change at all before so this is a great improvement.

First, check to make sure your datewheel overlay isn't hanging up on anything. Sometimes when the glued on overlays are glopped on, or not centered they can rub somewhere and hang up.

If it's not anything like that. . .

Your calendar wheel is probably the culprit - part 2555. Pretty common on ETA Clones. Also the spring - 2784 would be a good thing to replace since you'll have the whole thing apart.
