correct lugs for Pre-V?

There's been an in-depth thread over on RWG discussing the Pre-V case, particularly the lugs, and the general feeling is that the short, squarer lugs are correct.
However the O.P. blueprints that are around on the web seem to show a longer lug, very much like the current gen case.

What's the opinion here as to the 'correct' pre-V case shape?
Any pictures?

There was an article floating around on the web that had a bunch of comparison pictures. I think it was done by Mr. Volker Weigmann, but I'm not certain.

I *believe* the shorter, squarer lugs are what the Pre-V cases actually had, regardless of the electronic copies of the blue prints.

Here's a pic of a gen 201/A if it helps:

So how do you think these compare?
Did one in brushed and one in polished to allow for the differences finish makes visually.

Nope.

If I go to the properties of your image and copy and paste into a new browser window I get:

Those look a little longer and thinner to me.

Tough to tell with nothing else to compare to, though. Can you post up a pic with one of those cases and a "normal" rep case?

Here is a pic that might help:

The top is a "normal" rep case, the middle is a gen D series case, the bottom is a DSN case.

so why does DSN's case look like the crown does not sit centered (higher) in the guard? Is this characteristic on all his cases? Does this pose any functional issues, or just asethetic?
thanks

Shorter, thick and stubby, with aggresive curve pointing downwards.

For good Volker's comparo pics between contemporary auto and pre-V historic cases, see here:
http://paneristi.com/archives/casediffe ... index.html

The standard PAM rep case from 2006 that used to come with non-AR glass and no cutout between the lugs is the closest one I've seen so far, bar the gen pre-V 5218.

Just had a sort out of different lug shapes to hand.

Tried to sort them into increasing lug depth order.

Only 2 of these are the same shape (#3 & #5 from the left), these are the 2 I posted earlier.

Here's a face on shot in the same sequence.

from your photo the one on the far right is the better match.

Yep, the one on the far right is the best. The 4th from the right has good lugs, but less flat/square "shoulders" on the case, from the look of it.

There you go, Rocket. Now build about a thousand of 'em.

4th from the right has the closest lugs to pre-V IMO, first from the right has the "chunkiest" but they appear somehow out of whack, especially with the lug holes sitting that high up the lug profile.

Agreed, but the corners of the case on the far right one look better, no? Combine the two and it's a home run, IMO.

Possibly, a really good comparison would be if we can see those two against each other back-to-back or on top of each other.

cheers,

I just love the photos of a stack of cases! Amazing. I do think the fifteenth from the north is about right though the square of the hypotenoose is off by a quarter

I feared this  .

The far right case is an un-modified 'Helenarou' case from a recent shipment from MK that I picked because of the flatter shoulders and plenty of meat left on the lugs to fine tune the shape.
