Consensus on A7750 21600 movement

What is the consensus on this movement? Is it up to par with the 28800 BPM movement?

I recently purchased this Tag Carrera from Mark at TimeShops and have been reading different things on the board since which might make me regret my purchase :(

I believe this has the Asian Valjoux 7750 movement (which defaults with Seconds at 9, Minutes at 12, and Hours at 6) however Mark let me know that this movement has 21600 (I think that's right) bpm. Readings on RWI have led me to believe that the A7750 with 21600bpm doesnt hold a candle to the A7750 with 28800 or the ETA 7750. Should I be worried?

Also, if possible, can anyone point me to a BETTER Tag rep (same style as the watch above, or even the Day-Date style) which would give me the best bang for my buck in terms of accuracy and stability (so that I don't have to take it for repairs more than once every year or two - I don't intend on using the Chrono more than 1-2 times a month, if that at all!) ?

Note: I do know of some of the mistakes on this replica in comparison to the gen (blue screws, subdials are slightly thicker) from a review on this forum, thanks a ton for the review (can't remember who posted it, sorry!!)

Hi NW,

there have been numerous discussions on this topic.

Here's my point, always the same :
- the first series of A7750 were probably very unreliable, they were with 21.6 kbph
- the next generation was 28.8 kbph and they were considered better

Today's 21.6 kbph are not from the first generation. There must be several manufacturers, some with low beat, some with high. That's all. Both are OK, but basically the replica Valjoux 7750 movement (low or high beat) meets problems in the time because of a lack of servicing. Some are more lucky than others. But in the end the result will be the same if you don't service the movement.

I own both, in several watches, and I see no difference in the reliability.

My oldest 7750 is a HBB low beat, and it runs like a charm, and worst, accurately :)

So there's no conclusion to draw IMO. Try your luck ,if possible have the movement serviced (not in China !) and here you go. In the end, as Fakey recently confirmed, the best is maybe to avoid this movement and go for reps with a good ETA clone, a quartz chrono or a Seagull chrono (these are known to be very reliable)

Depending how savvy your dealer is, you could ask them where the movement was sourced from. The Shanghai factory supposedly pushes out the best movements. As everyone has said, it's better than it was but can still be a risk according to reports in the past.

Just thinking aloud here, maybe we could all provide our personal data for each movement, eg.

1.Movement type, ETA 2836, clone 2386, hi beat A7750, A7750 seconds @6 etc. etc.

2.Watch brand.

3.Approx date of purchase.

4.Any faults to date, making note of fault free also.

That way we could compile data in an updatable sticky that may point as to which watches, movements or batches of movements are problematical and what failures are occuring, not just having to rely on rumor control which could be outdated.

For example I own several 28800bph A7750's and one 21600bph A7750, all trouble free to date, whereas I've had a gen ETA 2836-2 which needed a balance assy replacing.

What do you think, could this be setup, is it worth setting up?

I like the idea of a movement sticky with up to date info on members' thoughts and issues (hopefully not too many of these). It would really be nice for all the noobs who come in asking 'Whats the best rep of xxx model, which movement should I look for?'.

I've never had any problems with 21.6k 7750 movements at all.

Same here. I always liked the 21,600 versions. They've come a long way. I actually think they're a better option right now if you need to have a 7750.

Great to hear - puts me at ease atleast.

I remember reading a tutorial from Ziggy about why you shouldn't wind your 7750 watch. It got me a bit scared, but in the e-mail Mark sent me with my tracking number he said:

"What is the first thing you should do when you get your watch?"
"Likely the power has drained so you should turn the crown to wind it"

I am a bit confused...What should I do with the 7750 in the Tag Carrera Tachy that I ordered (link above) ?

Great, thanks guys! How long should I swirl it for (I am going to swirl, then wear it all day until I sleep). What's the power reserve like on these anyways? Once I put it down for the night will I have to swirl it up every morning?

About 40-44 hours. If you're wearing it everyday you should never have to wind it.

If you need to wind it, just do it enough to start it running : 5-10 times. Slowly, and that should be fine.
