need help identifying the lab for best shade of precious metals. I recently purchased a couple two tone yellow because they are my favorite, but the shade of gold is a complete deal breaker for me. This was a high anticipated VSF sub but as you can see, the shades are completely different.

What are the best factories specifically for PM shading? Thank you.

Does this include the gold shading? I am having the worst luck finding a two tone yellow that looks anything close to gen

To me all gold reps still are not exactly the same as gen - not enough to call the gold reps super reps. The colour is off no matter if its rose or yellow. Stick to SS or WG reps and no1 will be able to tell with the Daytona's.

The quality of rep Daytona's from the factories is amazing.

Comparing the watch to your 18k ring is not the same thing unfortunately. Rolex mixture of 18kt gold is almost certainly not the same as the mixture in your ring which will result in a different colour.

18 carat is 18 carat, it's not really about the colour, it's the weight.

That's kinda funny really because the last time I got called out was circa 20 years ago, by some drunken muppet and I was wearing my 2T Rolex Bluesey, that watch was a Gen

So yes perhaps your right, Rolex use inferior Gold

Shade is not just the amount of gold. If the gold is 18k, great but each manufacturer smelts a different blend of zinc, copper, cadmium, etc,
So while they may be 18k each, the overall color may not be the same unless it is the exact same blend when smelted.

The picture I posted is a gen Daytona against a VSF Sub. Gen across all three that I own all have the smooth soft yellow.

I agree with you the colour of your Sub looks more like a cross between Rose Gold and "Easter Egg" foil.

The other thing is if like me folks don't give a shit and tell the truth about which watches are gen and which are reps then there isn't really any issue at all.

Also I suppose it depends on age, demeanour and perhaps even location, but there is no such thing as the now (IME) extinct call out, as long as we don't try and pretend the stuff we have is something it's not.
