alternatively i was thinking maybe use the same gasket but sand down the bezel, so that the crystal somehow 'sits' higher?

I think if you did that with the 2.5, you'd achieve the same effect as you get with the 2.7 w/o any sanding.

Sorry to bump up a old thread but my Explorer has been in the watch box because I can't figure out the correct way of sanding the inner diameter of the bezel to get it to fit over the gasket.

What did you guys use to do this?

I would pick up a small set of needle files. Remember that you are starting with the bottom edge of the inner diameter - so the bezel will fit around the gasket and not smash down on it. Work in small increments so you don't take too much because then you're screwed.

I did a lot of research on this. The gen 114270 uses a 2.0mm thick crystal and a 29-295-1 gasket, which is 2.3mm tall.

The pics below shows how the crystal sits on a gen 114270. There is much less height than with the 1.8mm crystal + 2.7mm gasket some of you have tried. It matches the pictures in the first post (1.8 crystal + 2.5mm gasket) almost perfectly, which makes sense because:

1.8mm crystal + 2.5mm gasket = 4.3mm total height same as gen
2.0mm crystal + 2.3mm gasket = 4.3mm total height this is what the gen uses
whereas
1.8mm crystal + 2.7mm gasket = 4.5mm total height

I've got a gen 25-295 1.8mm crystal and 2.5mm gasket. I could be completely wrong about this if the rep case inaccurate, but based on the first post, I doubt it. I'll update when I swap it in.
